Completed my First attempt at cake pops-some questions

I made vanilla/vanilla cake pops with milk chocolate and white chocolate. They were relatively easy to make but I have a couple questions for next time. How do I know exactly how much frosting to use? I used half can this time and feel like they are very moist but maybe that's how they should be? How do I get my chocolate smooth? I hate how I had spoon lines. I tried turning bowl on it's side and rolling pop and then spooning the rest on and that seemed to help but it's not smooth like you see on some of the websites. I'll try and post pics soon.

The chocolate should be smooth just from dipping it- when it doesn't work out I found it was usually because the chocolate wasn't melted enough.
