Competition cheer

If your child does competition cheer through the district couple of questions.

1. How organized is it? Do you have dates for competitions or other activities at the beginning of the season?

2. Do you have your schedule for practices and such at the beginning of the season?

3. How realistic are they with their expectations? For example if you need to order anything do they give you at least a week or more of notice?

4. Does your child show you what they learn at home and do they seem to understand what they were taught at practices?

5. How old is your child and how long have they been doing it for.

I was trying to ask questions so you don’t have to reveal your district.

Thanks all.

Re: Competition cheer

My DD does its through our town and not school district so the school does not have involvement in it.

1. How organized is it? Do you have dates for competitions or other activities at the beginning of the season? - we have nothing at the beginning of the season. When you sign up you do get a welcome packet and it tells you in the summer practice is 3 days a week for August. It also tells you basically that you shouldn't plan long trips from August-November. However August they do they allow you to miss practices though they rather you not but practice, games, comps etc from Sept.-Nov. Are mandatory

2. Do you have your schedule for practices and such at the beginning of the season? - no only for August though I will say this year we got out September- November Practice schedule at the end of August which is early for us.

3. How realistic are they with their expectations? For example if you need to order anything do they give you at least a week or more of notice?- we are not really required to order anything. There are extra expenses are due they give us due dates for them but they don't say anything when you pass it they just continue to ask for it. - the provide everything absolutely need so they are really doing all the ordering

4. Does your child show you what they learn at home and do they seem to understand what they were taught at practices? - all my DD does is tumble and cheer in my house Chat Icon but I will say that I am the team coordinator for her team so I am at every practice

5. How old is your child and how long have they been doing it for. - my DD is on the 7s team and she has been doing it since 5's

just want to add a couple more stuff. I also happen to now be on the board for our cheer league.
The main person of our league does do all the scheduling

Everything does seem very last minute and from the outside very unorganized but I will say a majority of it has to do with outside sources.

Example we practice starting in September at school gyms however we have to wait for permits and time they can use it from the school. So even though they submit the applications they can't do anything till they hear from them. In the past they would not hear from the schools till school was back but this year we got them back earlier so the head of the league was able to work and give out the schedule for Sept-Nov but I will say after I published it to my team we had several updates after that.

Then we have go to cheer gym for choreography that can be last minute sometimes too but that again is waiting to hear from the gym.

In our league we are required to cheer at games and in competition. We still don't have a game schedule why though because the football league still hasn't provided a solid scheduled yet they have done through 5 different versions of it.

As far as comp dates the head of our league does not like to give them out until they are basically 100% solid dates while I notice other leagues give the dates out to their team earlier. The head of the league usually ends up eventually giving them out if enough people ask and makes sure we tell everyone that they are tentative dates.

Honestly though IMO everyone that joins esp. If you have been on the league for more than one year should know that there will either be a game, comp or both on every weekend starting from Sept- Nov. We practice 2-4 times a week.

I make no plans from August-November. Everything besides cheer is tentative those months. I know not everyone wants to be like that but I feel if we commit to something we commit plus being a team coordinator I like to set a good example.
