what happened? For the three years I had mine, I lost my entire hard drive twice!!!

what happened? For the three years I had mine, I lost my entire hard drive twice!!!
How funny (well not really) you should say that.
I had it for less then a year and the part that the plug plugs into went bad. So we sent it back (still in warrantee) and they fixed it. this was like a week before our honeymoon. Mike asked do you need to reformat the hard drive "NO NO NO We wont have to" Mike said i am going on my honeymoon and all of our info is saved on there and we are taking it with us so we need it back before we leave. We got it back the morning of our wedding. THEY never hooked it back up to the internet wireless card. so we traveled with it for NOTHING.
Now less then a year latter in May It just wont turn on. We bring it to best buy and its the Hard Drive .400.00 later. Mike tried talking me out of not fixing it and buying a new one, but I spent 1200.00 on it 2 years ago im not ready to just throw it away.
Well NOW its doing the ORGINAL problem. Best buy said they wont fix power problems. Micro Center said it was a mother board and thats 500.00 ( thats 900.00 in repairs if I knew this I wouldnt have spent the 400.00 on it)
We contacted Compaq and all they will say is "take it to an authorized dealer" YA WE DID. Since this was the same problem they fixed last year I don't want it to happen EVERY YEAR im so mad now.
Now im like do i fix it after I already spent 400.00 on a hard drive which I never would have done if this was gonna happen AGAIN? Or do I just try and sell the hard drive on Ebay (its only 3 months old) and buy a new laptop
Moral I HATE COMPAQ

I we only order HP at my job... desktops though. No laptops.
We get Toshiba laptops.
Sell the laptop on ebay and buy a new one. You would be surprised how much a broken laptop will get you on ebay. The LCD screen itself can be worth at least $100 buks.
Then monitor fatwallet.com for a good laptop deal. You can get a decent laptop for under $800 buks now.

That was exactly what my DH said when I told him about Kristin's problem.
I know. i knew they merged but mike bought an HP media center and so far (knock on wood) no problems.

HP makes solid desktops. I've been using them for years (and Compaq before). So I wouldn't worry about that.
But Laptops are a mixed bag. There really isn't any fool-proof laptop maker that will guarantee you no problems.
Every laptop manufacturer will have its percentage of "problem units".
