Communion help
I have never been to one, but was invited to my close friend's daughter's. Knowing my friend she is going all out and told me she hired a party planner. Since this is my first I have no clue what to wear or give so would love ideas. The family was invited. I have 2 boys and our 6 year old boys are good friends. It's his big sister's.
I have a nice dress I bought for a Bar Mitzvah I wore last Spring so not too worried about myself. What do my 6 and 4 year old wear and DH? Do they wear suits? Button down shirts and vests? Around how much does a family of 4 give?
Thanks!

Re: Communion help
For the party, I think your kids will be fine in slacks, shirt & vest. I wouldn't buy a suit if you don't already have one. For DH, I think I would go with a suit. I would give somewhere around $300.

Re: Communion help
I don't think anyone needs to be in a suit button down shirts are fine.
I would probably give max around $100 (and for me that's doubtful) but I am not believer in having to cover my plate for parties. I give the same amount no matter where a party is held. for a friend I would most likely do $50-$75.

Re: Communion help
Just look nice, cute slacks and button down shirts are fine. A simple dress for you is perfect. It's really NOT a big, fancy event...........at least in not all of the communions I've been to in my life.
I wouldn't give more than a $100 max. It's not a wedding, this isn't about big monetary gifts. JMO.
Have fun!

Same here, although I do believe in at least covering the plate. I know it shouldn't matter for a communion (or really any party), but it is just something I do.
Suits are definitely not a necessity. The only ones that really dress up are the parents / siblings & grandparents.
I'm planning my son's this year. Such an exciting event.

Re: Communion help
I think button down shirts and nice pants are fine, no suit necessary... I would give at least $150 for family of 4.

I go to a lot of communions - huge family. I would wear a nice cocktail dress and my DH would wear either a suit with no tie or nice pants with a nice button down shirt. We would give minimum of $200. For a family of 4 I would give min of $300. This is the norm among family and friends that I know.

I agree with this and yes plenty of people do big fancy over the top parties. Many of my friends have children making communion this year. Some are low key home or restaurant parties and some are at halls with all the bells and whistles. I agree with $200-$250. Boys are fine in button downs

Re: Communion help
I agree with dress attire that all else said, but $100 is sufficient for a communion of a friend IMO.

Daytime party? If so, not too glitzy. A nice daytime cocktail dress. I also have a huge family, and I'm with the $300 crowd.

I would not give more than $100 for a Communion.
I dint think your kids need suits. Button down shirts are dressy enough.

Re: Communion help
Business casual for all. A friend? $50-100 no matter where it is.
Did they take the child to mass every week too? ;) lol

Re: Communion help
If you have another friend going ask what they are giving. A lot of people don't give 350 for a wedding. I don't think people are giving that for a friend's Communion.

Re: Communion help
$200 would be the normal gift among our group of friends. The boys are fine in khakis and button downs.
