Colonoscopy prep UPDATED

Dreading having to do this
What did you all drink the day of prep? The paperwork says clear and light colored drinks, broths are ok and ices

Any other suggestions? I hate chicken broth and I hate the broth of wonton soup

So far I have lemon ices, coconut water, and white grap juice
Ugh I am miserable just thinking about it

So it’s all done and to be honest it wasn’t as bad as I anticipated.
Anyone that needs to have this procedure I def recommendation the magnesium drink instead of the other method that is 64oz in an hour
I drank 2 10oz bottles one at 7am and the other at 3pm then 4 laxatives at 8pm
I had no stomach pains just constantly in the bathroom
I wasn’t really hungry i drank a ton of liquids and had a bunch of ice pops
The procedure itself I was sound asleep in less than 3 seconds and slept the whole afternoon
My stomach feels off but doesn’t hurt, i had light food (cereal, eggs, and a ton of water)
Hope this helps anyone that may need this

DH didn't do any broth, just liquids. Lemon Gatorade I think. Good luck!

Re: Colonoscopy prep

If you can’t do any broth, try clear Gatorade so you get some electrolytes in

I had broth, a shit ton of lemon ices, water & Gatorade

The prep is really the worst part.

I am dreading the prep
I did it a few years ago and was throwing up instead of pooping sorry TMI but it was just too much liquid for me
This time I am trying to prepare better but still petrified and already sick to my stomach with anxiety :(

I remember being able to have jello. I also didn’t have broth. I could not have anything that was not light in color either. I am not a big lemon fan so it was very hard. The prep was the hardest part of the colonoscopy. Good luck!

did they give you the sureprep kit from the pharmacy? i used that along with wonton broth (i know you don't like it, but maybe another clear soup liquid like chicken soup broth - homemade to control color/contents).

The prep is awful!

When I was waiting to go in for an endoscopy they were telling another patient that they could not perform his colonoscopy because he was not empty enough and would have to start prepping again.

So months later when I was having my colonoscopy I stopped eating heavy foods and started eating much lighter like 2 days prior.
I didn't want to take any chances and it made my prep easier. But I still hated drinking that stuff.

I think I had broth, tea, and jello. I didn't think the prep was as bad as I was expecting. Use a straw to chug the drink and then suck on lemon wedges to cut the taste. My doctor recommended that and it was definitely helpful.

im dreading this!! probably scheduling my first this summer...

good luck to you

my ideas would be: coconut or vanilla water ices, veggie broth, water infused with lemons and limes, light colored jello, tea, apple juice.
honestly, you dont have many choices. not much in the light colored liquid department.

Oh man. That stinks

I hope this time around it’s easier on you
I wish they had a better way. Drinking all the stuff is just too much

I didn't have anything other than the prep drink mixed with fruit juice...it was still gross. I hear mixing it with Gatorade is much better. My doctor also recommended lollipops to hide the taste of the drink more...so I had a bunch of those while drinking.

Ugh, I'm going for my first colonoscopy this am! So far the prep has been difficult; it's so much liquid. Plus not sleeping well and having to do the prep a second time at 3:45am, not fun!!

Colonoscopy prep

Oh GOD, this post is bringing up bad moments for me. The prep was awful, awful, awful! When I got up at 3:00 am for the second round, my stomach basically just starting puking everything up because it refused to hold anymore of this stuff. I was so scared of not being cleaned out enough and having to redo the prep!! There has to be a better way to prep for this, why not a few pills? lol

I just spoke to my dr and i told him I am NOT drinking 64 oz of that stuff
He is having me take a 10oz dosage of citron of magnesia at 7am then again at 3pm and at 8pm 4 ducalax pills
I’m crying already
My test isn’t until 11:30 Wednesday and I’m already sick to my stomach with nerves :(

Re: Colonoscopy prep

Ugh hopefully the pills work better! I do one every other year and it suckssss but my best tip (for those who end up needing to drink it) is a straw and trying to get it as far back as possible so the taste doesnt linger in your mouth. Honestly, we have planes in the air, cant we make this prep easier?! LOL

Seriously! Since my DH had colon cancer, my DD will have to begin having colonoscopies when she's about 35. That's many years away and I hope there is something easier by then. But I'm also glad she'll be monitored at an earlier age.
