Cold cuts?

So I was giving DS, 10 months old, some boars head turkey and ham. My sister mentioned that she thought you weren't suppose to give cold cuts to such a young baby. I hadn't even thought not to, but wanted to know if there is a recommendation to give them or not...

Re: Cold cuts?

My son just turned a year old and he's been eating them for at least a month. I never heard anything about not being allowed to give a baby cold cuts.

Re: Cold cuts?

You can give them but cold cuts are high in sodium so some people avoid them. They also have preservatives that some avoid as well.

Cold cuts?

They are filled with nitrates which is probably why your sister mentioned it.

Cold cuts?

They're really high in sodium, nitrates, and additives so I don't give them to DD at all.
If you have to give something, I'd get the fresh roasted turkey or chicken breast from the deli--not the cold cut kind.

Re: Cold cuts?

if you're a mom who wants to stay clear of high sodium and nitrates etc - like you wouldn't give your child a hot dog, then you might not want to do cold cuts either.

if you're fine with that, then bring on the cold cuts...

it's not a matter of they shouldn't have them, it's a matter of personal preference.

I give dd cold cuts AND hot dogsChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cold cuts?

For us I'mjust concerned about salt so either I get the low sodium version or I make sure she drinks lots of water.
