cold cuts...
how bad are they for you? I am craving an italian hero, but i'm so scared to eat one and that is all i'm craving today!

My doc told me to stay away from it b/c u dont know how long it has been sitting out etc and you dont want to get a bacteria from it

I ate cold cuts, only Boars Head brand. My dR. said it was ok, just in moderation. I ate Italian Heros when i was PG. It is ok that you have them.
Like I said everything is in Moderation

I didn't have a cold cut sandwich until my second trimester. My doctor said everything in moderation so I figure once a month shouldn't be too bad.

I've had cold cuts a few times - second trimester.
Make sure it's from a reputable market/deli. Also make sure they are cut to order not just laying around presliced.

This is a hard one that I don't think "everything in moderation" really applies to. Eatting cold cuts is like playing russian roulette. Either they are 100% fine or in rare cases can cause devastating consequences including miscarriage.
Its not like eatting too much salt where ooops you get swollen ankles and then know to scale back. If you are extremely unlucky and get that 1/1000 (made up number, don't know the acutally likelihood) slice with listeria it would be very, very bad. Lots of people are fine with taking that risk, but I just want to make sure you understand that you don't need to eat a lot to get listeria, you just have to get really unlucky.
If you are really craving it I'd just heat it up to steaming hot. It may dry out some, but that eliminates the risk and you can then enjoy it without worrying.

I can tell you that at our Lamaze class at the hospital they served cold cuts as part of the lunch, so I guess they can't be that bad  .

My doctor today said they are fine as long as they are from a good deli and they haven't been sitting around. He said to tell them you are pregnant and you want to know how long the package has been open! He said ANYTHING you eat can have bacteria, etc...like spinach and broccoli!!
