Coffee troubles
I am a lover of good coffee, but I have never been able to brew a decent cup in my house? I am on my 2nd coffee machine. The first one tasted like plastic no matter how much vinegar I ran through it. This one, a Mr.Coffee just tastes bitter & horrible.
I buy good coffee beans. I use 1 tble spoon to 1 cup water. Why doesn't my coffee taste like 7-11?

Re: Coffee troubles
I don't think my coffee will ever taste as good as a take out place!
I have a Krups coffee maker.
I just add a lot of the flavored coffee creamers to my home-brewed coffee.
I also usually just buy Folgers.
ETA: I usually just home-brew my coffee on weekends or if I am working from home. I justify getting my coffee out because it never tastes as good taking from home!

Re: Coffee troubles
Have you tried using whole beans and grinding them fresh. You get a lot more flavor this way. Try using more coffee. You need a lot for a nice strong cup.

Re: Coffee troubles
I prefer columbian coffee. I also like my coffee stronger and use more coffee. I have a cofee scooper (which i think is 2tbs-unless it is calibibrated differently) and I use my 1 scoop (heaping) to 2 cups of water and then depending on how many cups I am making throw in an extra scoop or so....if I was making 6 cups of coffee I'd put in 3 heaping scoops and an extra more level one

Re: Coffee troubles
I use a perculator...no need for filters or anything so you get a good tasting coffee. I also use Foldgers med-dark columbian.

Re: Coffee troubles
Do you use tap water? If so, try filtered water and see if it makes a difference.
Also, be sure to store your coffee (whether whole beans or ground) tightly closed so it can't pick up weird flavors from other foods.

Re: Coffee troubles
We use a percolator, and I think that makes a big difference. Also, we use a coffee scoop, which measures 1/8 of a cup for every 2 cups of water. By "cup of water," I mean the measurement on the pot - I think each one = 6 oz of water.

Re: Coffee troubles
My mom made coffee in a perculator recently and it was amazingly good. I am going to have to make a mental note to pick up one of those things!

Re: Coffee troubles
I LOVE my perculator. It makes the best coffee - hands down.
I can't wait to get rid of my Tassimo - I can't stand the taste of the coffee or the price for the pods. I should have never put my perculator away for this machine.
