COBRA question

I have a COBRA question...I am on a childbearing leave that is switching to a child rearing leave in a few weeks. As of 2/13 I am off salary and my insurance runs through the end of the month. I am returning to work on 3/11. I will be without insurance as of 3/1, though my benefits return 3/11. I know that I have COBRA as an option and will use it to keep us insured. My one question is...from some things I have seen on the internet, some people say you don't need to pay the premium unless you actually need to use it. Is that true? Does anyone have first hand knowledge?

COBRA question

The thing I know that's good about COBRA is that it is retroactive; so in a sense, you do not pay a premium unless you decide you want the coverage, then the coverage becomes retroactive. Maybe that's what people mean?

That's exactly what people mean...does that mean that if we don't need to see a doctor or anything for those 10 days, we can skip the whole premium and let my insurance start back up on the 11th?

Yes I do believe that is how it works.

Yes, you should be fine. But, I believe it is only retroactive for 30 days (or at least that's the way it used to work). So, if you were not going to be covered for say 2 months, you would have to pay by the end of the first month. But for the 10 day period you're looking at, you should be completely ok
