Coat spinoff, preschool?
This is dd's first year in school so I'm second guessing my usual coats. Usually I did a warm fleece most of the time and anytime we were going in the car and only used the heavy coat for playing outside once in a while. At school they go outside some days but I'm assuming not when it's super cold. Is there something that is okay for the car but warm enough for playing outside? Do I just need to sick it up and get a 3 in 1 type coat and out the outer layer on when she gets to school?

Ours go outside when it is still very cold... They will play in the snow when it snows.
We send them in coats.

I buy a heavy coat and take my dd out of it in the car seat. I always have a blanket in the truck in case she gets cold.

I buy heavy coats for outdoor play. I like oshosh or london fog for outdoor.
This year I got columbia lite jackets for the car. They are think enough not to have to adjust the harness yet they are warm.

I leave a heavy coat at school during the week. And I'll take it home on the weekends. In the winter we're not really playing outside after work/school. She wears a car seat poncho to and from

I had to google the poncho thing. Looks like a great idea.

Layers... my son wears something thin to school (like one of those ultralight down jackets), but I leave an extra layer of thick fleece at school.

my son always has the 3 in 1 coat. I send him into school wearing the fleece from the car and bring the outer layer for them to put on him when they play outside. they will play outside as much as possible.

Re: Coat spinoff, preschool?
my daycare taskes the kids outside unless it's under 32 degrees - they go out in the dead of winter if there isn't snow on the ground - The Lands End squall jacket is my favorite for years - light enough for the carseat but SUPER warm and waterproof
