Clothing questions

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I really don't have much experience with babies. Are you supposed to put onesies on underneath everything including sleeper outfits?

I know babies lose a lot of heat from their head. Are you supposed to put cotton hats on them when you're at home? At what point is it not necessary for them to wear hats inside?

Re: Clothing questions

My DS was in a onesie under his sleepers (pj's) until he couldnt fit in them anymore (24 months or so ) Chat Icon ...Now in the summer w/ the central air, we still put a t-shirt on under his pj's - and in the winter, he doesnt keep a blanet on so he gets a t-shirt even then ....

I kept the house pretty warm when we bought DS home from the hsopital, so he didnt wear a hat indoors...I don't think theres a right or wrong to any of this- depends on the temp indoors Chat Icon

Re: Clothing questions

I always put a onesie on my son....the onesie side snap shirts at first and then once his cord fell off a regular onesie.
As for the hat in the house no. My house is like an oven when my mom puts on her heat!

Re: Clothing questions

eryk is nekkid under his pjs (other than the diaper)

I don't know if this is true, but I've read that babies shouldn't wear hats indoors, because they can overheat... it's also a SIDS risk

I've found that many relatives tend to overbundle (and almost suffcate) babies... they should only be as warmly dressed as we are....

That's not true at all. They should have what we have on +1 layer.

Last winter I'd put a onesie under non-fleece pjs. And I put long sleeve ones under t-shirts or short sleeve onesies so I would get more use out of clothes.

Now, at 18 months, he doesn't wear them that often.

Yup - one layer + clothing.... Kristina is always dressed well - my theory is - you can overdress.... but never underdress a child. Peeling off layers is easier than dealing with a cold baby!
