Cloth Diaper Mommies...

I'm hoping to do cloth diapers when comes. My mom did them for my sisters and for me and she said we never had a diaper rash and it was one of the best things she thinks she could have done for us.

I've been looking into different types of cloth diapers but I'd really like to hear your recommendations for diapers and how you/what you use to wash them. Also, when cloth diapering isn't an option (like when you're going away on vacation) what do you use? Do you have the attachment for the side of the toilet for cleaning the diapers when they go #2? Is it worth getting? Any information you can give to me would be really helpful! Thanks a lot!

we use indian prefolds(30)
thirsties covers(3 xsmall, 3 small)
snappis(3)

all free and clear

every other night, put load in.
hot.
since the beginning she was only BF, all diapers just get thrown in.
because of this, i would start with a cold rinse cycle.
then i would add detergent, hot, stop it to soak. turn back on.
totally clean.
throw in dryer.
if i wasn't in a HOA neighborhood, would totally hang them.

now that she is on foods...poop is different. I keep a plastic spoon in bathroom for scraping. works great.
except I wanted to go a different route.

9 out of 10 poops, my little love goes right on toilet. no more then 10 sec, she is already pushing. she picked it up right away.
so now that it is just pee diapers, i have been skipping the rinse cycle and doing a regular load.

i started off using a dirty dry bucket...but i never wanted to clean it out..so instead i use grocery bags. i just tie bag closed, reopen and throw diaper in, close again.
i promise you...my house is very clean, never a smell.
then i can just toss the bags.

vacation-long car rides...really not worth it. i use a 7th gen diaper for that.
went to the beach and used cloth
camping used 7th gen

at night, she doesn't pee. she did in the beginning, but stopped.
she wakes up and pees.
it is a huge pee. so now, in the diapers i have been using hemp liners. it helps absorb.

never a leak though.

I use bum genius AIO diapers.
When they were newborns and I was breastfeeding, we just tossed everything (poop included) into the washing machine.
Now, poop gets dumped in the toilet (and we do have the sprayer for really messy diapers) and then everything gets washed in a hot wash with a teeny bit of method free and clear detergent. Every once in awhile we add some bleach to get rid of any lingering odors.
Then dry on medium, and we are ready to go.
If I use disposables I use Nature BabyCare diapers. I like them because they are partially biodegradable.

Neither one of my DC have ever had a diaper rash. We will be using cloth again for sure with #3.

We use Fuzzi Bunz pocket diaper and love it!

Once poo becomes formed in the toilet it goes where it belongs. We store the dirty diaper in a PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) waterproof bag which is the same material the diaper outer layer is made of. My wash routine is similar to Janice's.

We have gone away quite often and just brought the diapers home to wash like we would with dirty clothing

i used prefolds and covers exclusively till about 9 months during the day - snappis - make it easy - no pins

my son goes to daycare and they are fine with the prefolds

when he really started to get mobile - i started using all in nes- my favotite are bum-ware for the day time

our night time diaper since about 4 weeks of age has been bum genuis

i have enough dipaers - to laundry once a week

since startign food at 6 months - i use liners- they are easy for daycare

I use the flip system - when i travel - so when i am som where where i can wash i bring the cloth liners and when we are out for the day or on planes i use the disposable inserts

it has been easier then expected

I just started using cloth diapers because my dd had a really bad rash that was not clearing up no matter what we tried.

I have been using GDiapers for about a week now and love it. Definitely way easier than I though.

If we are out I tend to use the biodegradeable liners that I can just toss. As for the cloth inserts since she is only given breastmilk we just toss them in the wash.

As a back up I bought the Huggies natural diapers but funny enough she has not peed through the gdiapers only the huggies.

Her diaper rash cleared up and is practically gone. I think I will stick to using the Gdiapers. Not as hard as I thought it would be.

We use prefolds and wrap during the day. When we do day trips I use smarti pants (all in ones). For the a couple of days we still used cloth in combo with the flip disposables. At night we use Bum Genius.

When breastfed just threw in washer and dried. Now we use a liner and I wash on cold then one wash on hot then dry.

Dirty diapers are stored in a wet bag. I wash about every five or six days.

Daycare doesn't allow cloth so they have disposables there for him.

We do too!! LOVE it, DDs only had a rash once and that's because she was pooping sooo much and has super sensative skin.

I have green mountain prefolds, some fuzzibunz perfect fits, BG pockets one size and some good mama fitteds. I use thirsties covers and gen y covers.

I LOVE the BGs for night time diapers. We have 2 of those. My favs for daytime use are the fuzzibunz perfect fit diapers and just regular prefolds and a cover. The Thirsties covers are great with newborns since they have the leg gussets.

DD was EBF so we didn't need a sprayer. You can must wash with the poo on as nasty as it sounds. Now that she's on solids I just plop in toilet, we don't use a sprayer.

To wash I do a cold prewash and then a hot wash. I just use all free and clear. I used crunchy clean for a bit, but didn't notice any differences between the 2. I do 2 rinse cycles, I put a 1/2 cup a vinegar in the first one. I probably don't have too, but it works and I don't want to mess with my routine :)

For my older DS when he was in diapers I used BG3.0 and Fuzzibunz. I had no problems with either. I really think CD'ing helped him potty train as well bc he could feel when he was wet even at a young age. Anyways, with my younger DS he didn't fit in the Fuzzibunz as well, so I sold them and bought Flip diapers, which are really simple. I use the Flips if we are just going on a day trip, but usually for extended overnight trips I use disposables. I did the diaper trial thru jilliansdrawers.com and highly recommend them--they answered so many of my questions. I wash every 2-3 days--cold rinse followed by hot wash with original powder TIDE filled to the 1 line. I hang dry when I can and tumble dry the rest of the time. Once a month I 'strip' them with sensi-clean wash (got thru jillians drawers) and I have never had any stink issues. I have a dry pail with a wahmies liner that you toss right in the wash (so you need 2) and a couple planet dry wetbags for the diaper bag. GL! FM for any questions!

I use GroVia.

It's a hybrid system. The diaper consists of a shell and a snap-in soaker pad. When the pad gets wet, you just take it out and put a new one in. It's designed to be less laundry (you can reuse the shell as long as their is no dirty on it and the soakers are trimmer than prefolds) and quick to change since you just snap, snap, close up and go.

There are also additional "booster" pads for extra absorbency (for heavy wetters or at night) that you can lay right on top of the soaker pad. I've just started using these at night. My 3mo old DS was waking up from his wet diaper at 3-4am but with the booster added, he's not waking up until 7am!

I have 12 shells, 22 soaker pads. I've done a full load of diapers every other day. Honestly, you wouldn't want to go any longer than 2 days without washing any type of cloth diaper.

I toss the shells, biosoakers, and boosters and the diaper pail liner in the machine all at once. I wash with warm water (manufacturers suggestion) on heavy soil, with Tiny Bubbles detergent. They come out clean but there is some yellow stains on the soakers from my BF baby poop. When I dry in the sun, they are bleached back to white in no time. If I dry in the dryer, it takes about 60 minutes on high heat. I don't dry the shells though. They air dry so fast and the manufacturer doesn't recommend drying them.

I haven't tried any other type of cloth diaper but I would highly recommend these. They are awesome. I never expected cloth diapering to be this easy!

Other details:
The soaker & booster pads are organic cotton and have to be "prepped" before use by washing on hot & drying completely 5 times. This will ensure maximum absorbency.

For large poopies from my 3mo EBF baby, I wipe out the excess with a wipe and toss in the garbage. When he starts eating solids, I'll get a sprayer or try out the liners. So far, there is no need for either yet.

Grovia has a biosoaker, which is a disposable (and 99% biodegradable)soaker pad to stick into your shell. That is a good option for when you are traveling because then you'd only have to wash & air dry the shells when they get dirty.

When I'm out and about, I put the dirties in a wet bag. Planet Wise wet bags are good ones. Or you could reuse a plastic shopping bag.

Two diaper pail liners are a must. I have the Kissa's antibacterial pail liner. I wash on warm with the diapers and air dry it.

I don't have a traditional diaper pail. I use a Simple Human 10.5 gal slim plastic trash can.
Here The pail liners fit perfectly and there's no smell!

I am fortunate enough to have 2 friends that CD who lent me a bunch of prefolds and wraps and some pockets, as well as a few Kissaluv fitteds. I also have some GroVias and BumGenius Elemental All In Ones that I've purchased.

What I've discovered is that me + prefolds don't really work. But I love the pocket dipes (I have Thirsties), GroVias and the BumGenius AIO. I "line dry" all of them on an indoor rack. The inserts dry really fast as do the covers but the AIO's take a couple of days.

So far, we're doing about 50% of the time in CDs, with mostly disposables at night or out of the house. DD2 is only 10 days old and I just wash the dipes every other day. I have to get a wet bag still too.

that is fantastic!! and inspirational! I hope that I can get DS to do that at 8 months!!!
