Closed on our house but .....
Just closed on our first house. However DH just called me to tell me that left the house a wreck. Tons of garbage everywhere including leftover pizza still in the box on the counter that they bought yesterday. What ever happened to leaving a house in "broom swept" condition.

they even left us their used toilet brushes...ooh, and the cabinets (does anyone remember that post? do a search  )
In retrospect, we should have called our attorney but it was the weekend and we wanted them gone

I sw**r people are pigs. We do have a calll into our lawyer and waiting for a response. We are hoping that they will come back to clean up.
yup, if they won't clean up, have your atty hold escrow $$ for a crew to come in

ITA with this! This was actually in our contract that the sellers would leave the house clean! They actually had their cleaning service come and in clean. I suppose they didn't have to go that far, but I was thankful they did.
Anyway, I spent the whole first night cleaning anyway... MY WAY!

We're buying a foreclosure and I'm secretly wishing they would leave it as-is. Half of the previous owner's things are there and some are really nice 
I'd trade a day of hard cleaning for some of them.

please the day of closing our sellers were still cleaning out the shed. They spent the next two days cleaning it out. We had them leave money in escrow until we were satified with their clean up. But of course over the next couple of weeks, while we still cleaned up the messy house, we found a crack pipe and needle (un used). We found out later that they sold drugs out of the house.  People can be really gross!  I feel your pain.

I've got a great one too - our prior owners left strange unidentified rotting jars of food in the refrigerator!!!!!!!!!!! They were large jars with liquids and food in it. No one had lived there for about 6 months so you can imagine what it was like. The fridge smelled so bad, that we had to throw it out and buy a new one.

OK - now it's not only gross, it is just plain weird. And WHY did this cop leave bullets all over the place?!? He should know better. When we were growing up, my dad kept all of his guns in a safe & all of his ammo in a separate locked box. We now do the same. That's just dangerous & irresponsible

They were elderly...and I think they were also both mentally ill...there are bars on our basement windows!!!

Yes, I understand that - it's exactly what we did since the seller stayed in our house for 2 weeks after closed. And the house was a mess and we kept a big portion of their escrow.
HOWEVER, the suggestion was that the lawyer could get them to put money in escrow now -- post-closing. That isn't going to happen. It would have had to happen at the closing.

I think you misinterpreted what I said..
I was assuming there was already $$ in escrow since it seemed they stayed after closing...thought that was just the norm
