Clomid and delaying ovulation

Does Clomid usually delay ovulation? here is my dilemma, DH has business out of town next month. He leaves the day I ovulate. But if I take clomid and it delays ovulation he will not be around to ttc. From what I have read you can't be on clomid for more then 3 cycles.

Sooooo....What do you think? Do I risk missing ovulation and waste a month on clomid? I really don't know what to do.

Re: Clomid and delaying ovulation

From personal experience clomid had no affect on my ovulation. I was actually talking to the doctor today about this and she told me that clomid and injectables don't do anything to speed up or slow down ovulation. They are used to produce more follicles.

Also, I have been on clomid for 7 cycles now. I'm just wondering why your doctor would only tell you 3?

Okay, so maybe I will chance it.

She said no more then three cycles because it has negative affects on your uterine lining, and can thin it out, making it harder for embryos to implant.

Re: Clomid and delaying ovulation

I don't think Clomid itself delays your ovulation, you may just be slow to respond. Every time I've been on Cloimid I don't see mature follies and I don't trigger until around CD22 or later, but that's just how long it takes my body to respond to the meds.

As far as only being able to do 3 cycles of Clomid, that is extremely conservative. Are you seeing an RE or an OB/GYN? If you're not with an RE my recommendation would be to get to one before you do anything, they are WAY more versed on knowledgeable on IF issues than a regular OB/GYN.

I've been on Clomid and I've done at least 7 cycles with Clomid (my top dosage was 250mg) and I've never had a lining issue. This cycle I'm doing injectables but my lining looks good, no residual issues from the Clomid.

Good luck to you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am with an OB right now, but she works with IF patients and an RE closely. She and the RE said that she will refer me to if the RE if the 3 cycles don't work. I only do 3 cycles with the OB, then the RE will take over.

I am just starting this whole process, so PP, go with the more knowledgeable answers. I don't want to give out bad information.

It's not bad information, it's just conservative. But you're right in that it can thin out your uterine lining but generally, 3 cycles (especially on a low does) should not have much of an effect on that.

I can only share my experience, but switching from an OB to an RE made ALL the difference for me. I did Clomid for a few months with the OB and I wasn't getting anywhere. Once I switched to RE I was pregnant on my first cycle. I just felt the level of care was better, more monitoring and more attention to every little aspect of my cycle. Like I said, everyone's experiences are different and it's not to say that an OB can't help you. Just that in my case I found the RE to be a better route for me...........but that's just me. In any case, lots and lots of luck!! Hopefully you won't need the 3 cycles and you'll get pregnant right away!!!! My DD was a one shot deal.....1 follie and 1 IUI. Good luck!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
