Clomid

Hello, has anyone taken clomid and had no issues other than you can't get pregnant?
I ovulate regulary, have a regular cycle, 14 day leutal. Doctor suggested clomid since it's been over a year trying and a MC in Nov. I got pregnant with my 1st right away, and with the MC right away, since then, nothing....
I do not want to "mess" anything up....
There is a slight chance I could have something with my tubes, but that wouldn't have anything to do with Clomid, and could only be determined by doing Laprascopic surgery, so he suggested starting Clomid IUI. I have done a ton of reading on the Clomid, and there could be side effects if you are regular of it messing up your O.
So, I am just looking for been there done that people :)

Thanks!

you might be better to post in infertility since most have been put on clomid there. I know I am put on it for cirtain cycles and so far there is no reason for me not getting pregnant but yet I haven't been able to get pregnant.

Post on Infertility and you'll get a lot of responses.

You should only be on Clomid if you're under the care and monitoring of an RE. Clomid can thin your lining, cause you to have multiple follies, etc and you need to be closely monitored.

ETA: Also, you should not take any medications until your husband has an SA.

Re: Clomid

i ovulated regularly, but had a short luteal phase and low progesterone, so my OB gave me clomid...got pregnant right away with my DD.

When we were trying for our 2nd, we werent so lucky....we did 4 rounds of clomid, 6 IUIs, another round of clomid, 1 fresh IVF, 2 frozen and one final fresh IVF before i got pregnant with DD2.

Thanks ladies. i wanted to post here because I wanted to hear stories of people who had their children, or have one child and are struggling with the second etc.... I know a lot of the girls on infertility are on it, but I wanted to hear stories of been there done that I guess, since I have read every Infertility message board in google lol I just don't want to cause issues for my body if everything is "the way it's supposed to be" and it's just taking a long time to get pregnant.

I got pregnant w/ Clomid. I have PCOS, so I wasn't ovulating regularly - and Clomid helped with that. We got pregnant through timed intercourse w/ Clomid on our second month of it - was monitored by a reproductive endocrinologist.

I did not take clomid because it can thin your uterine lining. I went on Femera, which is also a cancer drug. It does the same thing as clomid however my dr used it because it does not cause thinning of the uterine lining the way clomid does. That being said, if you are going to go on one of those medicines, i would see an RE and be monitored. I had normal cycles for the most part. 1 miscarraige and then it took over a year to get PG again with the help of Femera, ovidril and an IUI. My problem was I was testing positive for ovulating on an ovulation kit but my eggs were not actually dropping. When I saw my RE he monitored me closely starting on day 3 of my cycle and i went in one day and said i had a positive OPK and when he did a sono he said my eggs were not dropping. So even though i had a positive OPK i wasn't actually ovulating. The next cycle we used femera and my eggs grew but did not drop again. The final cycle we used femera and then ovidril to make my eggs drop and I got PG with twins that cycle. I would seek the help of an RE before taking any fertility meds. Good luck!!!

Clomid

I have a 28 day cycle and O on day 14. Went through all the tests and nothing wrong.

Did 2 cycles of clomid that ended up in Neg cycles. It did not change my cycle at all.

Ended up getting PG with my DS the month before we were going to start IVF.

Trying for #2 on our own and so far no luck. We will not see an RE for #2, we just don't want to put ourselves through the stress that we did last time. We are ok with just my DS if that is what it is to be.

Has your DH/SO been checked for abnormalities with his sperm? What made the dr say it could be your tubes? You don't need surgery to determine if there's a tubal blockage.

Is this your obgyn telling you this or an RE?

I took femera and ovidril and dh & I were on antibiotics as well the month I got pg with ds

Re: Clomid

Go to see a RE if you have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. Before anything, get ovulation predictor tests & get to know your cycles.

Unexplained IF is when you can't find anything wrong with either partner. There still is a reason, they just don't find one.

Surgeries (like laparoscopy) are sometimes offered to look for occult causes, but many RE don't recommend them because the ultimate step will be IVF. They will do an HSG to look at your tubes.

Every single med has side effects. Clomid may be a good way to get your eggs to a better quality & hopefully more than 1 & increase your chances. It's side effects are better than what comes next (but even so, the # of clomid cycles will be limited & you will be monitored).

Good luck!

I went to a RE had all tests. DH is fine, my tubes arn't blocked, I had a FemVue HSG done and the air bubbles were not coming out in the right place, so my RE said it could be because I have adhesions which are affecting my tubes. BUT the only way to tell for sure would be Laproscopic which I do not want to right now. So he suggested clomid, and that is why I am asking here because I do not want to cause any other issues since I am ovulating, have regular cycles, etc ec I am nervous to start it and mess with things esp if I have adhesions and that is the reason for this b/c then clomid isn't going to be the miracle worker for me. I have done so much research and am so undecided.

Are you ok with going the ivf route?
How old are you & how long are you going to try before stepping it up?

If your tubes are both blocked... Or are scarred down near your ovaries, IVF may be the way to go. I know a girl who had ivf because of frequent ectopics with her hubby.

IF stinks. Sometimes there is a cause, sometimes not... But it sounds to me like they have a probable cause. I agree, a lap may make your problem worse & not fix it.

Personally, clomid did nothing to my cycle. Try it...

Clomid was a huge decision for me - I completely understand your apprehension. It's a big decision, especially when you conceived the first with no problem. Hugs to you as you guys make your decision Chat Icon

Clomid

I am 33. I am not sure how long we would wait. To be honest I am still in shock that I am going through this. I was very naive about this whole thing because of how easy & quick it was with my first, where I am having information overload along with the shock right now, and it's scary and hard for me to make a decision. I mean I know there are risks with everything, but we are 14 months in now trying for the 2nd. This current cycle is the same I got pregnant with my 1st, and this same time last year I got pregnant and then had a M/C in November. I am just scared of reading the risks of the clomid and now it's going to take even longer if something happens from it, but on the other hand, what we are doing is obviously not working, so how long do we continue to just try with no help. It's so frustrating. The whole IUI process sounds like such a pain in the asss. It has gotten very emotional at this point. I know that if I get a BFN this month I am probably going to go on the Clomid. I guess I was/am just looking for happy successful stories since I should be Oing soon, so this is all in my face, and here we go again :)

Re: Clomid

I too got PG with DD#1 the moment I thought about it. With DD#2, like you, I tried for about a year. My ins doesn't cover fertility treatments at all, so we went to the RE, had the testing done, and decided to go with the Clomid/IUI. Took one round and got PG. Unfortunately had a MC at 11 weeks. Tried on our own again for a few months, then went back to RE. 3 more cycles of Clomid/IUI with no luck. We were told that we would have to go to IVF. Since my ins didn't cover any of it, I said that's it...we're out of options. I had one refill left on the Clomid, so I took it on my own and got PG and had DD#2. Now...she does have a chromosomal abnormality, which the OB says is not related to the Clomid. Who knows. I do know many, many other moms who's kids have the same issue as my DD that did not take Clomid or any other fertility meds. I guess it's always a risk.

BUT...then 4 years later, got PG with DS without even trying, or hoping for another baby! It was a total shock...I was convinced that I couldn't get PG on my own since it had been 7 years since I had!

Good luck with whatever you decide. I know it's such an agonizing, and painful time. Chat Icon and Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Clomid

I am in the same boat (somewhat).

I got pg naturally after 5 cycles with DS.

We have been trying for #2 for over 2 years now. DH had an SA and he was good. My insurance doesn't cover Infertility so I only went as far as the consultation and three rounds of Clomid with the RE. I have regular cycles and O on time. There's no explanation why it is taking us so long to conceive. I am 32 and DH is 34.

DH and I both decided recently that we would not peruse fertility treatments. We are blessed to have DS (who is 3) and if it happens for us, we will be ecstatic but we just don't have it in us (emotionally and financially) to go through fertility treatments. I am finally at peace with this decision.

Best of luck to you and your DH! Chat Icon

Success story: my sister got pregnant her first IUI with Clomid. She had one tube down. She was trying for a year.

I'm sure there are tons of success stories.

If both your tubes are down, it may not make a diference.

Personally, my clomid run was not a success, but it didn't hurt either. I've hopped between getting pregnant my 2nd try & not getting pregnant after over a year & tons of meds. Getting pregnant, IMO is how far you want to go, how much you can afford to gamble, how old you are (your chances) & what your problem is.

Again, good luck. The process sucks!

What about asking about Femera and an ovidril combo with back to back IUI days the day of and day after the ovidril (as well as the "natural" way the day or two after that?

It's a lot to take in and process. Good luck!

Just make sure you are being monitored. I was put on clomid and responded really, really well. I eventually had to go down to 1/2 pill for only 3 days so that I wouldn't end up like octomom. That being said, for DS I got pregnant eventually with combination of clomid, HCG trigger and IUI ..but for this go-round i'm not as lucky!
