Clomid & IUI
Is anyone taking Clomid while getting IUI? My daughter's dr. recommended it, but they're nervous about taking Clomid (worried about multiple birth). I took clomid years ago and conceived her naturally. She gets regular periods and according to the ovulation test, she ovulates every month. She's thinking of trying IUI without Clomid first.

Re: Clomid & IUI
I did clomid with IUI and got my BFP. I am pregnant with one.
I also didn't ovulate regularly on my own and only had one follicle when my IUI was done.

Re: Clomid & IUI
I produced only one dominate follicle each month that I was on Clomid. If she is being monitoring closely, she will know how many follicles she produces. If she is uncomfortable with the amount, she can cancel the IUI.

Re: Clomid & IUI
Of course, a "side effect" of Clomid is a multiple pregnancy. It's not common (10% increased chance of having twins), and much less common than using injection medications.
It is all a personal decision for your daughter, taking into account how long she's tried & specifics only her MD knows.
I think many if not most people start off with Clomid when doing IUI.

Re: Clomid & IUI
I got pregnant with my first cycle of clomid & IUI. It initially was just going to be a clomid cycle but the doctor recommeded IUI because of DH's results. I was on 100mg Clomid and I have a singleton.

Re: Clomid & IUI
I answered on the pg board, but like other people said you are monitored very closely, she could always choose not to go through with the iui if there were a lot of follies.

Re: Clomid & IUI
This was my first month doing IUI, and I did it with Clomid and Ovidrel (don't know the results yet). I ovulate on my own and have regular cycles (28 days) but also have unexplained spotting issues. I produced 3 follies with the Clomid. We'll see what happens!

Re: Clomid & IUI
Most people use Clomid with their IUIs. It only usually produces onw or two follicles without any other meds. The RE will monitor her very closely and would not do the iui if there are too many follies there.
I used Femara for my timed intercourse cycles and that has a lower incidence of multiple births. She can ask her doc about using that instead. Though, I used it this cycle and am pregnant with twins, so I guess there is no guarantee!
Good luck!
