Clomid & cysts
I met with my RE at RSoNY today to discuss our course of action. I don't usually ovulate on my own. I'm FINALLY ready to start treatment - I was all set to go in July but they found a large cyst and had me take BC pills until it was gone. But the RE scared me a little: she told me that Clomid causes corpus luteum cysts and we already know that I'm very prone to them. So my question is, have any of you experienced this? Has Clomid caused large cysts? And if it did, did they make you stop your infertility protocol to go on BC pills until the cysts calmed down? I don't think I can take that again.

Re: Clomid & cysts
I took Clomid for a total of 11 cycles and of those I got a cyst one time (small) ...It was uncertain during my IUI cycle whether it was a cyst or a follicle because it was behaving the same as a follicle, but if I recall correctly my blood levels confirmed it was a cyst...
Good Luck !!

Re: Clomid & cysts
I never got a large cyst on Clomid, but I did this last cycle on injectables. It was 42.5mm. They continued with my cycle and just kept an eye on it. The only way it would delay anything is if it's producing estrogen, which they can tell with your bloodwork.

Re: Clomid & cysts
this is my second cycle on clomid, no cysts yet. But thinner lining. IF you are afraid of cysts, why not try femara?

Re: Clomid & cysts
I have had 2 corpus luteum cysts, 1 in 2008 and 1 this year.
The cyst they found this year measured a 5.7 when they found it. After 4 cycles of Clomid it grew to 6.2. We decided to remove it to increase our chances because it consumed my entire right ovary, so I was not producing any follies, eggs, etc.
My RE assured us that it would not have been an issue and would have continued Clomid/IUI. He gave us the option to remove or not and we decided to remove it.
I agree with PP, they only worry about cysts that produce hormones, but corpus luteum are just blood cysts, so it should not interfere with your treatment. Good luck!

Re: Clomid & cysts
Okay thanks. I was worried because when they found my cyst (6 cm) this summer, both the doc and the RE seemed really concerned and they put me on BC pills for 2 months. I don't want to go through that again. You've all eased my mind - thank you!
