Clogged Tear Duct procedure?

DD was born with two clogged tear ducts. Her right eye has thankfully corrected itself. However, her left eye has not. I had to rush her to the pediatric opthamologist tonight because when she woke up from her nap her entire eye was filled with green goo and her eye lid was so swollen she couldn't open her eye completely and it was dropping on the outside corner. The doctor said she has to have the tear duct probing procedure. I am so upset and nervous. I know this is something that will help her but the thought of my baby being sedated and having a "surgery" really upsets me
SO...if your DC has been through this procedure please tell me everything and anything about it! Where did you have it done? who did it? what did they do to DC? how were they after the procedure?
I am just freaking out a bit over here - it doesn't help that DH is away on business and I am dealing with all on my own right now Chat Icon
TIA

First of all, Chat Icon .
Second, my DD has a clogged tear duct too (left eye). The Ped has us putting in drops 4x/day and massaging the bridge of her nose. They seem to be helping. Before the drops, we were using a cream 4x/day but that wasn't working as well.
Has your Ped suggested the above yet?
My Ped said that if it didn't start to resolve she would need the probe too. I didn't ask any details, so I can't answer your questions, but the Ped didn't present it like it was a major procedure.
Good luck! If I find more out from my Ped I will let you know.

Thank you for answering.
We have done a few rounds of drops and we just finished a round of oral antibiotics but her eye was "infected" again in less than 2 weeks after finishing a round of the antibiotics. He basically said that if they eye got infected that quickly after finishing the oral antibiotic then she needs the probe.
The doctor explained everything to me tonight and it does seem like a routine procedure and it last for maybe ten minutes. But, I just wanted to hear from other moms that DC went though this to calm my nerves.

Re: Clogged Tear Duct procedure?

DS had the procedure last May. It helped a little (we never have to pry open his eye) but unfortunately, he will probably have to have this again. He has mucous in his eye whenever he has stuff in his nose (which seems like all the time!)The procedure (we did it at St. Francis Hospital) was really fast and relaively painless (especially for the anesthesia)
