clogged milk duct?

2 nights ago I woke up with left breast pain. My is 3 weeks old and slept longer than usual so I figured it was from engorgement. My nipple was sooo sensitive and hurt so I googled and thought I had thrush. My ds does not have any white spots so I was unsure. Then I noticed a hard spot by my nipple right under the areola. So I figured it was a clogged milk duct. So I did warm compresses, steamy shower, nurse/pump frequently. In the beginning, nursing or pumping on that side was very painful at first. Now there is no pain and just very very slight soreness at the nipple but I still feel a hard spot. I never had a clogged duct or any breastfeeding issue so I dont know if this is normal. I googled of course but I keep finding people saying that they got rid of it in a day. Im going on my 2nd day plus I am just neurotic so I think lump and automatically think cancer.

Can a milk duct be inflamed or swollen and take time to go down? Does it mean its still blocked somewhat? I also dont want to get mastitis.

It sounds like a clogged duct. I've had a bunch this time around and also mastitis. Does it feel like a pea size bump in your boob, like not on the surface? Mine always took a good 2 days to go away, and the soreness could take 3. As much as it hurts try massaging the lump while pumping/feeding. For me I was able to feel the lumps of the clogged duct and get rid of it with no problems, but When I had mastitis I didn't feel the lump and the redness/fever etc came on very quickly with hardly any signs.

It feels like a pea size lump by my nipple. I cant massage it while nursing or pumping because I can't reach it while doing it. It is like right there. It feels much better than a couple days ago. Im nervous I won't be able to unplug it. Then what happens?

If it feels better I think you should be okay and it will go away. If the bump doesn't go away in another day or so then maybe call your dr.

Just keep pumping/nursing and it should clear. I had one a few weeks ago it took about 3-4 days to fully clear. Be diligent about it bc it can lead to mastitis. Keep using a warm compress before you pump and try hand expressing so you can massage the bump while you express. I also recommend using a little coconut oil while you massage toward the nipple.
