Cleaning a jaccuzzi tub
We just closed on a house, one of our bathrooms has a jacuzzi tub. I need to clean it, disinfect it, whatever...I could never use just using scrubbing bubbles or something like that.
any ideas how i can really clean it. Maybe bleach and water and run the jets so it's gets in all the nooks and crannies.

Re: Cleaning a jaccuzzi tub
Andrea- found this on eHow
http://www.ehow.com/how_2096182_clean-jetted-bathtub.html
General Instructions Step 1Clean the tub using gentle cleaning products designed for your tub. Most jetted tubs are made from acrylic or fiberglass and can be scratched if you use harsh cleaning methods.
Step 2Fill the tub with warm water, making sure you're covering all the jets.
Step 3Add a small amount of dishwashing soap to water and swirl it so it's well mixed into the water. You can also try cleaning products such as Spa Jetline Cleaner specifically made for cleaning a jetted bathtub. You can also contact PurgeTech for other products designed for cleaning a jetted bathtub.
Step 4Turn the jets on and let them run for about 10 minutes.
Step 5Drain the tub and let air dry.
Using Bleach in a Jetted Bathtub Step 1Put warm water into the tub, making sure you're covering all the jets.
Step 2Include about a cup of bleach to the water.
Step 3Switch on the jets, making sure you haven't filled the tub so high that if the bleach water splashes it won't stain anything. Leave the jets on for at least 10 minutes.
Step 4Let the water out of the bathtub.
Step 5Rinse away any standing bleach water.
Step 6Refill the tub using only warm water and turn the jets back on. This will help you rinse any residual bleach water in the jets so you don't end up bathing in bleach water.

Re: Cleaning a jaccuzzi tub
Be very careful if you use the dishwashing soap. A little goes a loooong way once you turn on them jets, LOL! I use scrubbing bubbles on the outside and then the bleach method to clean the inside components.

thank you! I was thinking the same thing when i saw the dishliquid...I just kept envisioning the Brady Bunch episode when peter was doing his own laundry (i think it was Peter, maybe Bobby)

Re: Cleaning a jaccuzzi tub
I got this from Real Simple once and it works pretty well for us - we had similar situation.. bought our house and the previous owners had a jacuzzi tub that they'd never used, so the pipes had all this junk in it.
Fill tub to just cover top jets - put in 1/2 cup non-chlorine bleach and 1/4 cup powdered dishwashing soap. Run the jets for 1/2 an hour then drain tub. Fill up again with clean water, run jets again for 20 minutes to clean the pipes out drain tub.
I found this worked really well - the grit in the dishwasher powder helped work out some of the stuck in the pipe gunk and the bleach helped clean it. I also scrubbed each jet with softsoap to get those individually clean around the spigots.
You might see a few loose bits of gunk come out for the first few times you run the jets after that, but it will clean itself out pretty soon.
