Clean up in aisle 15!!!!
OK...how do you handle a crying tantrumy baby in the shopping cart? At the grocery store yesterday Sidney was pulling her usual thing....crying twisting, trying to get out of the shopping cart seat. DH was with us (thankfully cause now he sees what I go thru). But he wanted to take her out of the seat. I am trying sooo hard not to do that cause I think that is just reinforcing the behavior. So I would try to distract her with toys, and keep her near other kids in the store etc. But DH would get grossed out cause she would drop a toy and I would give it back to her. Yes I know that is gross but there comes a point where you just run out of toys and can't keep wiping them off.
ANYWAY.....I stupidly gave her a plastic bottle of pear juice to play with and she dropped it and it exploded on the floor!!!! I told customer service and they made and announcement that "We need a cleanup in aisle 15 rght away....hazardous conditions!!"
DH was mortified....
How wouldyou handle this??? It is a mision to do the simplest errand.
Help!!

Re: Clean up in aisle 15!!!!
Looking back, in retrospect, I would have left DH & DD home. Other than talking to her to calm her down or holding her & try to push a shopping cart, you're going to be dealing with a screaming baby. If it makes you feel any better - I think every mom is used to the crying .
I haven't forgotten my trip to Costco w. Maddie (almost 3 years ago - I'm still tramautized). I consider it a public service. I am sure not one of the teenage cashiers would consider getting pregnant after seeing her scream her little lung outs. "Just say No, girls. Just say No!"

I leave Nate w/DH at home or go to when he's at the ILs.

I agree with either doing this or leaving her home with DH! It doesn't happen every time we go, but Christopher has pulled this before at the store. I hate how everybody looks at you angrily like you're disturbing their shopping

I know it sounds kind of pathetic but grocery shopping is my big outing for the week. I guess I'll try peapod but I love to roam the ailes...well i used to before tantrums started

I know what you mean that's why I leave Nate with DH... I enjoy the time to myself. I usually stop at Starbucks for coffee and then go to the store.
