Re: city schools closed tomorrow
This hurricane better be big! I know I may be alone, but my kids should be in school right now! I live in Bayside and it's just windy. They would be done in 2.5 hours and I'm sure it will be the same!

But staff drives in from all over the city and LI, including Zone A where the streets are flooded and houses are on fire. Bayside might be fine right now but the rest of the area is not. Oh and the little fact the mass transportation is shut down.
ITA! What about the staff? They all don't like in Bayside u know....better safe than sorry.

I realize there are lots of people that are suffering now, that's why I said I'm probably alone in thinking this. It just shows what a big city we are in and how we are all intertwined. I'm just stuck in my own little world

ETA: And not to start a fight but saying "this hurricane better be big" is a really ignorant thing to say. If your DH was a first responder or if you lived in zone A I wonder if you would still be saying something so foolish.
If I could take this post down I would. Sorry to offend anyone and be so foolish as to post what I did.

I have to agree with the majority here. I live in Forest Hills where we are mostly fine, and I work at school in Chelsea where it is probably fine but I can't get there. I take the subway or to drive I would need to take a bridge or tunnel which I am not comfortable with. Plus, it is a private school so most of the kids use mass transportation. Just not safe to move around.

city schools closed tomorrow
Everyone stay safe..the wind where I am, on LI, is scary and although I work near Bayside, where my parents live and parkways are being shut down there in less than 2 hours, I would not feel comfortable sitting in school worrying about my OWN child and DH...instead, I worry about my father, who is not a youngster, and him getting home safely before it does get as bad as they say..based on what I'm seeing, I have no reason to believe it won't get worse before it gets better...

Re: city schools closed tomorrow
As a former city teacher who slogged through crap weather many, many times when nearly every other area district was closed, I'm glad my old work friends and everyone else who teaches in the city doesn't have to stress about tomorrow.

Smh. I know people make mistakes and say things they don't mean, but... Come on. I expect Bloomberg to be saying these things rather than a parent. I'm personally not risking my life.
