circumcision
my doctor said he usually performs the circumcisions 2 weeks after baby is born at his office. he said it is b/c baby has been through a lot and b/c of scheduling. i dont really feel comfortable with this b/c i thought it was done in the hospital before the baby comes home? What do you think?

Re: circumcision
i would not feel comfortable waiting that long to get it done... i plan on having my DS circumcised in the hospital. from what i have heard they usually do it the day after they are born, but i plan on asking during the hospital tour.

Re: circumcision
It's really not much different than someone having a Bris 8 days after birth. If you are really not comfortable with then I would talk to your doctor more.

Re: circumcision
I too thought they were always done at the hospital after the baby was born unless the parents said not to do it. I just found out that in FL all circumcisions are done 1 week after birth at the OB/GYN's office by the doctor.

Re: circumcision
We are having a bris for 8 days after he is born.
2 weeks does sound like a long time to wait.
But I have heard it is better to wait to have it down until after the baby is out of the hospital. I've heard some pretty scary stories about the high percentages of them being done incorrectly in the hospital, my sister's son being one of them.

Re: circumcision
thanks for all the replies. i just feel better knowing there are nurses around that will tend to it before i leave the hospital. the doc also charges $300 upfront and then if the insurance covers it he will reimburse you.

Re: circumcision
DS had it done in the hospital. My BFF was supposed to give birth at a birth center, but ended up at a hospital and since she wasn't registered there, she had to have a pediatric urologist do it. She said it was horrible, she had to hold him and it was really upsetting.
My insurance didn't cover DS' at first because they couldn't figure out why a 28 year old man was getting circumsized...til I called them and explained it was III, not Jr getting it done

Re: circumcision
My OB did it when he was a day old in the hospital. I was glad because it was bleeding and his diaper got stuck to it and the nurses took care of him for that. I was really scared when I saw the blood in his diaper.
