Circular driveway?
How much would it cost to put a circular driveway in front of your house?

Re: Circular driveway?
You might need a permit to do this. I think anytime you have to modify the street sidewalk (like to do a ramp for the one side of the circular you don't currently have).
Just something to think about. Probably a few grand to do the job I would think depending if you want blacktop, pavers, etc.

Also, depending on the town, there is a limit to how big your driveway can be. I had to get a variance to keep my driveway the way it was when I moved in... I'm in the Town of Islip, and there are restrictions to % of property covered by driveway.

Do you recall what the % is? We have an existing circular drive that is pretty big. DH wants to get it paved which I'm sure will require a permit. My guess is that they would tell us it's too big - just because TOI goes out of their way to be a PITA when it comes to improving your home. I guess that's their way of making sure you're not running a boarding house.

Just looked at my variance. The front yard occupancy of driveway and parking area cannot be more than 24%. We have 29.8%.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to figure out what ours is and break it to DH gently if we need a variance. After dealing with the town for our renovations this would really push him over the edge.

I hear that. It took us a year and 5 days to go from filing the initial paperwork until we actually got the permit....
Another issue we had was that they measure the height of the house from the street, not from the ground.... We have a slight slope on our property, so even though the house is well below the 28' restriction, with the 5' "hill", the roof peak is 28.9' above the road....

OK, that's just silly.
I often wonder who makes these rules......
