CIO moms any advice (especially those that share rooms with DC)?

We did CIO at 6 months with DS for a variety of reasons. He used to wake 2-3 times a night to feed and CIO worked beautifully to end that.

He is usually really good about STTN. He goes down sometime between 7pm-8pm and most mornings is up 6am or a bit earlier.

Once in a while he will make a peep for a minute or two but for the past few nights he has been waking and crying. Last night He awoke at 3:55 and didn't go back to bed until 4:45 and that was after I got up and gave him a binkie (it had fallen out of the crib). The issue is that we share a bedroom with him so we can't hide! He is standing there crying for us and we are RIGHT there Chat Icon If he sees one of us get up he gets hysterical, especially when DH walks past the crib when he is awake.

Any advice on this (other then to get a house and get out quickly Chat Icon)? Do you think it is just a phase? Should we let him CIO or do you think I should take him into bed with us just so that all of us can get some sleep Chat Icon

is there any way to get a curtain or divider of some sort? I think if he doesnt see you he'll soothe himself and go back to STTN.

ETA: We live in a railroad style apartment so we have the same issue (she can see us) so we put accordian doors and it worked otu nicely!

Haha, we HIDE! Either under the covers if we're already under them, or play dead.

Seriously though, I don't move an inch if he happens to get up in the middle of the night. Many times after 5 minutes he'll fall back asleep. If he's up longer, I know something is up (usually teething, in which case I'll give him some milk and cuddle time etc).

Once he sees one of us is up, it's over. He gets really upset and the only way to calm him is to get him, which defeats the purpose, IMO, of CIO.

Maybe try a room divider? I've seen some on Amazon.

We use to share a room with DS also and it was so hard when we were doing CIO. He could see us clearly and would just whine and whine. We would try to not move an inch but he would still fuss. Then DH snores, LOUD, and it would wake DS up all the time.

It came down to us sleeping in the living room (DH on the couch and me on air bed) for 3 months. Then I got tired of that and put both DS in one room and us in the other. Which was back to the baby seeing someone in the room but at least both DS get up at the same time and my oldest heavy sleeper. If the baby gets up at all he never hears him. Works.

i think the room divider is really the only solution. we cannot share a room with jack, he will stand there and cry all night if he knows we are there Chat Icon

when i go to my sisters, i set up the pack and play in her spare room and i get the couch Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i guarantee it will help! Chat Icon

ETA - id like to add that i believe my 11.5 month old is the ONLY 11.5 month old who gets his own room on vacations Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Aaaaah well at least I am not alone. Misery loves company Chat Icon Chat Icon

As an update today he slept until 6:30 am (thank the good Lord). Maybe it has just been a fluke. He is starting to take his first steps and walk so I am going to chalk it up to a momentary relapse due to a milestone Chat Icon

I think I am just going to continue to hide and not move an inch if it happens again Chat Icon More incentive to get our butts in gear and start making plans for a house! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks girls!!
