CIO at 2 1/2 years???? Help she won't stop screaming

I've never had to do CIO before, but DD will NOT go to sleep without delaying bedtime by 2 hours. She keeps saying she has to use the potty but doesn't really go. SO I think it's time for CIO. Do I just let her yell and cry until she falls asleep? If I go in, it only makes it worse. Am I causing "damage" by letting this go on for a 1/2 hour plus without going in? She's not really crying just yelling to us.

with some kids, you just have to let them cry, I could never go in miki's room, she would flip out

tell her before bed that she has to go potty once and that is it, consistency is key Chat Icon

she's crying she has to go pee pee for 25 minutes now. What do I do???? ughhh this stinks. She's just screaming - I can hear her downstairs over the TV. It's crazy....is this normal???? DH just went in. There goes the last hour of torture down the drain.

How do you do this right with a kid that you CAN NOT go into?

It's very hard but you just have to remind yourself that by going in, you're just resetting the clock and starting at square one. Chat Icon

How did it go?

I can relate. DD has been an awesome sleeper since 8 wks (w/ the exception of molars) & just this week she's started screaming about 10 min. after she goes in to bed (she's fine during bedtime routine & when I put her down). Then she just starts calling out to me & crying. (Went for her 2 yr check-up last wk & she was crying w/ teeth the wk b4 so I mentioned it to him & he said you need to do CIO at this point otherwise your setting yourself up for a bad habit). It is SO hard.

Last night I went in once (initially) & tried to calm her down & she went out for 30 min but then got up yelling again. She was calling out to me (the hardest thing ever hearing, "mom, momma, mommy, mom") & crying for about 25-30 min. but then finally quieted down.

Hang in there, its really not easy.

I take it she has a diaper on?

My DH went in after an hour and she said she pee'd in her diaper. He changed her and he said she was barely wet, but she went right to sleep after that.

We take her potty right before bed, then the second we get her into bed she says she has to go potty, we took her - she didn't go, we told her we aren't coming back in, 5 minutes after we closed the door the screaming started it went on for an hour before my DH caved (she was screaming for him.) The potty thing has been going on for about a week - usually we'd have to take her 3 times after getting into bed (delaying bedtime almost 2 hours). I gets old fast!!!
