CIO
I understand the CIO method but I wonder when do you decide it's tie to start? My lo is too young but I'm trying to determine when to attempt this. As of now dd wakes only to eat so CIO seems like Id be starving her ad forcing her to miss a meal. How do you know they no longer need that middle of the night feeding?

They say 6 mo is when they can self soothe. My ped said we could do it at 3 mo. Its up to you. You can also do the method where you dont just let them scream- you go in every few mins to let them know you are there. You will know when they drop a feeding because they will stop waking up at that tim in the middle of the night. My girls still get up consistantly at 4:30 to eat. If they wake at 2am, I know they arent hungry so I dont feed them. If they wake up at 4 instead of 4:30, they are hungry. Some nights they have gone til 5:30 or 6:30 but its not consistant so I am not going to make them cio til 6:30 when they wake at 4 and starve them.

DS was waking up at the same time every night for a bottle but it was more of a habit than hunger. We kind of assumed that when he was only eating a few ounces, rather than the entire bottle.
We started CIO when DS was around two months old, but we never let him scream or get overly frantic - just "normal" crying.

Same. For us it happened at 8 months.
She off and on began sleeping through the night so I know she wasn't hungry. Plus a few times we were able to just rock her back to sleep. That's when I knew she didn't need the bottle.
This is my post on it. I liked the progressive method because I didn't feel like a total monster and I don't think she felt like we were abandoning her. It was the one of the best things I ever did.

I didn't do it until 9 months. She was still swaddled until then and I decided to do it all at once, lose the swaddle and the bottle. She wasn't really drinking anything (maybe an oz) when she woke up so I caught on she was waking from habit. The going to sleep wasn't her issue so much as the getting up. She did have 2 bad nights due to the swaddle but was out within 15 VERY LONG minutes each night. I did the interval thing but that may have been worse, in hind sight. But that was what I was comfortable with.

My girls were not ready for any kind of sleep training until they were 8 months adjusted. before then, they were still needing to eat in the middle of the night. We also felt that they needed us and needed the reassurance that we were there.

I would ask you pediatrician their opinion. They should have an idea when your DC could go through the night without a eating at night.

Per my ped, they should be 12-14 lbs when they metabolically don't need to eat at night anymore. My oldest dd was 12 weeks when we did CIO and she was sleep trained in 1-2 days.

My DD dropped all her feedings on her own but she does CIO for all her naps and used to for bedtime. We have been doing this since around 4 months (she is 6 mos now) - she usually only cries 5 min and falls asleep and we are so used to it now. I wish she'd go down easier ughhh.
