CIGNA and Northwell vent
We received a letter last night that Northwell Health is dropping out of the CIGNA network. I'm so pissed. Had I known this earlier, I would have increased my FSA contributions to cover the out of network payments. OF course the deadline has come and gone. ALL of my doctors with the exception of Cardio are Northwell Health, and so are the hospitals we use. The only doctor I will keep is the ortho that replaced both my knees. I have to see him every year for follow ups. Not sure if I can find another ortho that would follow up someone else's work.
We do not like Queens hospitals, so we go to Nassau ones. Closest one is now St. Francis. This is the stress we need right before the holidays.

All of Northwell Health? Really? I did not get any letter like that and we have Cigna and pretty much all our doctors and hospital are Northwell.

Re: CIGNA and Northwell vent
I received the same letter.
It’s my understanding that you can SEE A DOCTOR who is affiliated with Northwell, but you can’t schedule a procedure at any of the Northwell affiliated hospitals. You CAN use the Northwell emergency rooms though and if admitted, you are covered then too. I think all it is, is you can’t schedule something there. I also find it weird that it listed St. Frances as an alternative because they’re primarily a heart hospital. What upsets me most is the inability to be covered for a scheduled procedure or something at Cohen’s, if necessary.

Northwell doctors will be treated as out of network.
If you are admitted to a Northwell Hospital thru the ED, you are covered at in-network level until you are stable and ready to be transferred to an in-network facility.
Mercy is far for us, takes at least 30 minutes for us to get there, same with Winthrop. We really don't like Queens hospitals, the only Queens alternative mentioned was Mt. Sinai in LIC. Again, that is about 30 minutes away from us and no way in he!! would we go to that one. NY Presbyterian in Flushing is the closest now.
Just so frustrating. Had I known this last month, I would have dropped DH from family coverage at my job since he is on Medicare and has additional coverage thru his union. CIGNA was better, that's why we kept it for him.

Re: CIGNA and Northwell vent
I sent the letter to my company's benefits manager and this is the response I got :
--------------------------------------------------------
You will be receiving a follow-up letter from Cigna in a few days advising that Northwell Health will not be leaving the Cigna hospital network. Apparently, by law, Cigna had to send that advice to customers, even though negotiations with the provider were still underway.
There will be no disruption to your services and the hospitals that you went to before will still be in the network.
I hope this information was helpful. ---------------------------------------------------------
NO, it was freaking anxiety inducing.

Re: CIGNA and Northwell vent
I sent this thread to my boss because she just switched to Cigna from care connect. She called her rep and she told her that they are in negotiations and the decision will be made in March.

Re: CIGNA and Northwell vent
All these different answers.
My rep just called to tell me the negotiations have been ongoing for quite some time. And they finally agreed to renew.
So all is good...........for now at least.

Re: CIGNA and Northwell vent
My HR just told me that they had to send the letter by law because there was no contract...but then the next day they agreed to a contract and that we will be getting a follow up letter. I literally had a nervous breakdown about this and I think it was really crappy of Northwell/Cigna to do this.

CIGNA and Northwell vent
This happened to me last year with Cigna and my OB and hospital I planned to deliver at. Had me in a panic for a few weeks, until I found out they were able to come to an agreement. For so many reasons, I hate Cigna.
