Christmas Tree

What do you plan on doing or did you do to protect your Christmas tree ornaments from being thrown all over the place by your toddler.

We are thinking a gate? Did you do this or something else or nothing at all?

Re: Christmas Tree

I bought unbreakable ornaments last year. They are not kidding when they say unbreakable: he threw them like balls. Not too $ and we get to save the fancy ones til he is bigger. We put a few far on top.

Christmas Tree

Last year DS was just starting to walk so he wasnt very quick. we had a full size tree and kept the breakable ornaments up higher.

This year DS is QUICK!! I plan on getting a shorter tree and putting it on one of my side tables that's in a corner blocked by my couch and a chair.

Re: Christmas Tree

Last year DS was a year old so we just taught him not to touch our tree. Honestly it worked out because then he knew not to touch any Christmas tree. We had thought about a gate too but then someone mentioned not getting one and just teaching them not to touch. That being said all expensive and meaningful ornaments went up high (we have a 9 foot tree) good luck!

I never did anything to protect the tree when our DD was younger. We just taught her not to touch the tree. Chat Icon

I put the more kid friendly ornaments on the bottom and the more delicate ones high up. DD isn't too rough with them but she does love to touch everything.

Re: Christmas Tree

first year DS was 3 months so it was fine. last year he was over 1 yr and getting into everything. we got a smaller tree, put up mostly unbreakable or plastic stuff and didn't take out any of the delicate ornaments.
this year i saw a cardboard cutout about DS's size that come with stickers. thinking of just getting that! a very non-traditional tree, but perfect for DS who loves stickers! ( my mom is already yelling i need a real tree. we'll see)

Re: Christmas Tree

with Sean we just put the delicate ones up higher and told him don't touch .........God help me with Colin this year though, he'll be 1.5 and I should probably invest in shatter proof glass to hide that tree behind !!

I can just see it now .......

Re: Christmas Tree

Only non breakable ornaments on the tree and the tree gets tied up to a nail that's been sunk into a beam. We get large real trees

We put a gate around it, but after 2 weeks, we ended up taking it down and he really did not touch anything.

Yup: that's our type of kids. NO WAY would he listen to me when I said not to touch the tree.
