My son was 1 last year and he got and still loves the fisher price crawl around car, little people sets, and a toy lawn mower.

Dd is 3. For her 1 year old Christmas she got the laugh and learn house. She still plays with it.

I would add some practical things like feeding sets (cups and utensils), toddler size towels, etc.
Toy wise, indoor slide, mega blocks, little people toys, chunky puzzles, wagon, ride on toys, leap frog fridge phonics, pop up tent and tunnel.
