Christening

Does anyone know when you are supposed to book it with the church after the baby is born or before or does it not matter....


Also what should we expect from the godparents- are they supposed to buy the outfit and cross or is this just an italian thing??

I think every church is different. We are going to check with our church soon what their guidelines are.

I've never heard of the Godparents buying the outfit. DH is from an Italian family and I've never seen it happen and we're making the gown from my wedding gown.

One of my friends is pregnant right now but her christening is already booked, so that's up to you.

As far as the outfit and cross, I don't think it's just an Italian thing, I think it's an individual thing. My family does it and we're Irish, although not all of my friends have heard of it so who knows. I think it's up to you!

i booked DS christening for 9/23, i am due 8/7. We already attended one meeting and we have a 2 hour meeting on 7/10. I didnt want to have to leave the baby with anyone or have any commitments the first few weeks after the baby is born, thats why i did it before.
we know who we would like to ask for godparents, but we are going to wait until after the baby is born.

we booked both christenings before the baby was born.

i dont know if its an italian thing or not, but the godparents did the cross/outfit for ours.
