If it was milk chocolate, you probably don't need to worry much. He'll probably have diarrhea but that will pass. Provide food and fluids.

Purer chocolate is dangerous. See the link for treatment. Being that your dog is so small, I'd be worried if it was dark chocolate.

Thank you so much! I am not even sure it was chocolate---DH went back to see what it was and we are not sure if it is or isnt chocolate. I am keeping an eye on him.

Granted your dog is small but we had a black lab that once ate (and I'm not exaggerating) a 5 pound box of chocolate- and it didn't bother her at all.
She lived to be 16 1/2 and this was probably when she was like 4-5.
My dad actually feeds my dog small pieces of chocolate and has since she was fairly young b/c he believes that it will cause her not to get ill or worse if she ever gets hold of chocolate somehow by mistake.
HTH!!

I answered you on Pets...but I wanted to add this story:
My friends min-pin ate an entire giant chocolate easter bunny (dog weighs 7 pounds, bunny weighed 1 pound). She ripped it out of the plastic in the kids room and chowed down on the whole thing....and she is fine. Fat but fine!!Chat Icon

Peanut our pomeranian ate a whole bag of hershey's kisses once. We called emergency vet and they told me to give her a tsp of peroxide to make her puke it up. So we did, and sure enough everything she ate came right back out.

I think you have to do that within an hour of digestion otherwise it won't work.

You can try giving the dog peroxide. This induces vomiting. Hope everything is OK.

Milo is fine....we kept an eye on him all night and he did not get sick or seem to display any behaviour out of the ordinary. Thank you for all your help!

That's good. The best thing about Chocolate is it's not the real stuff anymore so what Milo ate was that cheap stuff most likely. Now if it was the real deal then you would've had a problem.
