Chilling "the boys"?
DH was told by a friend who struggled with years of IF, that he used to ice "the boys" to speed up his swimmers. Does anyone else do this or know the benefits of this?
We are dealing with moderate MF (in addition to plenty of FF) and are headed for our 4th IUI tomorrow.
DH is planning to "take one for the team" and ice himself tonight. He wouldn't let me ask my RE this morning if this was a good idea.
Can anyone shed some light on this? TIA.

Re: Chilling "the boys"?
Yep. He thinks taking an ice pack to his testicles will help.

Re: Chilling "the boys"?
I just found this for you:
Studies have shown that testicular temperatures of 93 degrees or more can hurt the production and storage of sperm. Some people might call you crazy for icing down your testicles, but it's actually a well-recognized method of fertility-enhancement. You can buy a battery-operated machine that cools the testicles, or you can simply use frozen blue ice packs wrapped in towels. For results, you'll probably need to continue for over two months, since sperm cells need 70 to 80 days to mature.

I loved that line - that actually had me LOL. Go DH. I don't know if my DH would be so willing.
I had heard about heat being an issue but not the benefits of icing the boys. Good to know for future reference! GL!

yes, I have heard that and know someone whose husband did this, turns out he didn't have to b/c she had a blocked tube, but he still did it.
Your DH gets a big from me for doing it! I'm not so sure mine would!

Re: Chilling "the boys"?
Thanks, everyone. Especially you, Shannon, for the info.
I think Dh feels guilty that it is both of our "faults" that I can't get pg and there is little he can do to help. The appointments, the sonos, the needles, the meds are all mine to deal with. I think this is his little way of sacrificing for us. I am pretty lucky. Infertility and all.

Good for you for taking a minute to appreciate what you DO have. I think (for me anyway) it's easy to lose sight of that. And to your DH for being a real sweetie, and proving why you fell in love w/ him. I love when my DH offers things unexpectedly, IF related or not- sometimes it's the 'free' things that are the best gifts.
