Chili help...

So DH asked me to make chili tonight. I have the meat, seasoning packet (the one that McCormick makes), onions, tomato sauce and diced (bc i'm not sure which to use), onions and chili powder. I have cheese for on top as well. DH is anti-beans, so i'm leaving that out. Am I supposed to put corn in it? And what do you serve with it? Or is a bowl of chili just the meal in itself? I don't think i've ever actually eaten it...Chat Icon Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!!!

Oh and do you cook it stove top or in the slow cooker? I have stove top directions, but I feel like thats something that would be even better in a slow cooker..... Chat Icon

Re: Chili help...

I make a really easy chili recipe on the stove top.
In a pan I brown some meat and mix in the seasoning packet and let it brown. ( I skip the onion because DH hates them) Then I throw in some diced tomatoes and tomato sauce and let it simmer for a little bit. Then I throw in some fresh diced tomatoes and black beans and kidney beans (you can skip this step). And just let it all simmer on the stove top until everything is cooked through.
I serve it over rice and with some fresh crusty bread for dipping. I have also served it with crackers or tostidos to scoop. You can top it with cheese or sour cream.
I dont really serve a side dish but sometimes I will dice up some tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers ect... to make a side "picking" salad.
I think it would be fine to add corn since you arent adding the beans--add it at the end and let it cook through. You could also add some diced peppers if you like.
Good Luck

Re: Chili help...

I made it for the first time on Friday. I did exactly what you did in the slow cooker. I served with bread and rice, but I put it on nachos with sourcream and lettuce and tomato. It was delicious!!! We ate it all weekend!
