"Childproof" medicine vials at Target

We keep all medicine out of reach of DC, but the Target ones are a cool shape and color, so I took off the stickers, and gave a few empty bottles to 4yo DS to play with. Apparently, it's very easy for a 4yo to remove the "childproof" tops on those things.... Chat Icon Luckily, I found that out with empty ones, and not ones with anything in them.... Chat Icon

Re: "Childproof" medicine vials at Target

Just a little pharmacy trivia: those "childproof" vials are supposed to be designed to keep a child of 7 years old or under out of the bottle for at least 5 minutes. Yup, that's the test. They aren't really childPROOF, they are really just child "slowers" Chat Icon .

Took my 4yo much less than 5 minutes... They aren't really "slowers", just another cap to open.... The regular caps are actually safer, since I can crank those things really tight, and there's no way he has the strength to open them. The "child resistant" ones can't be tightened.

This was mainly a PSA to remind everyone to keep medicine out of reach, even with the "safety" caps.
