Childcare/Nanny
My nanny left us suddenly last week after over a year and a half. It was sudden, and extremely hurtful. I loved this woman and trusted her with my kids, my family and my heart.
I am now interviewing and may have found someone. She has come very highly recommended and we hit it off. I just have this heavy heart and pit in my stomach. How am I going to build another relationship again? Open my heart and my family and risk the hurt again. I know this is something I struggle with outside the nanny situation but I am really feeling sick over this. I am feeling a tremendous sense of loss and betrayal and now have to forge a new relationship.
I guess I am just looking to get these feelings out. The relationship between a nanny and her family is so much more than I could have ever imagined it would be. Our nanny was going to be a forever family member wether with us or not and now I am forced to move forward without any closure and build another bond.

Re: Childcare/Nanny
I'm so sorry! I can understand how upsetting this is- it is SOOOO hard to trust your most precious gifts with ANYONE and when you find that love and trust- it is like a relationship, not just an employee/empoloyer thing.
People really do suckk sometimes. I have seen it more and more lately and it's just so disheartinging.
I hope you find someone else that is awesome and that you can build up a new relationship with.
I'm so sorry!

It is definately hard I'm sure to get over the shock. You have no time to adjust because you have to start with a new one. I wish you the best of luck with the new one and just think you are lucky you have someone you click with so quickly.

OMG how awful. I would be second guessing everything too. Is daycare an option for you?

That really stinks. I'm sorry. It is special when you can find someone you truly trust. I have a hard time with trust issues when it comes to my girls and am always jealous of people who have people they have faith in. I'm sorry you are grieving your relationship.
Unfortunately, it is also a business relationship, and that is the big difference between true family and hired help. I hope you find another great nanny. I am sorry you are in the position you are in. I think it would be hard to be a nanny. To bond with a family and then lose their job every x amount of years when the kids get older, go to school or move. Me being a bit of a sceptic... maybe she wasn't all that she pretended to be if she just up and left you with no explanation and notice.

Re: Childcare/Nanny
If it makes you feel any better...we have had the same nanny for 2 years and she really is great and part of the family. However, DH and I have decided to start looking for a new one for many reasons.
That said, I do think children are so resiliant and will warm up to and love a new nanny without any issues. Also, I think change is good. When they are in school each year they will have a new teacher to show them new and exciting ways of doing things. I'm trying to look at changing our nanny in the same way. It's hard, but it will work out!

This does make me feel better, thank you! You make an interesting point!
Thank you everyone. I found someone rather quickly and she has been with us for two days. Everything is going well and I'm hopeful the change will be for the best. Thanks for all the support. The shock has lifted and I'm slowly getting used to the change.
