Childbirth Classes - Worth it?
As my due date is rapidly approaching, I am wondering if I should sign up for childbirth classes? Are they worth the money and time? I have heard conflicting stories. Some say they are an absolute waste, others swear by them. What is your opinion.
TIA.

Childbirth Classes - Worth it?
I liked ours, but ours were free. We did classes at the hospital and dh's company offered a month session of Lamaze and birth classes. It helped me be more comfortable with the whole process.

Re: Childbirth Classes - Worth it?
Our doctors offered it. I think it was $100. Everyone I know says they are a waste of time but being pregnant for the first time I had no idea what to expect. I thought it was very helpful. The second part of the class was at the hospital. They took you all around and pretty much showed you every place you'll be from the time you get there til when you leave.

Re: Childbirth Classes - Worth it?
I am a FTM and I didn't take any classes. I figured the dr and nurses would tell me what to do and I planned to get the epidural. while the nurses were immensely helpful, I think I personally would've done better in labor if I had some breathing techniques to keep me calm when things got hard. also my labor progressed too quickly for the epi so I went natural kind if against my desire lol.
only you can decide if you think you'd benefit from a class. personally, the next time around I will definitely take a class to help get my mind in a better place for labor.

Childbirth Classes - Worth it?
We took one when we were expecting our first and felt it was well worth it. We went to a parent education center, which unfortunately has since closed. It really helped us both feel more at ease and prepared for the whole process.

I agree about the breathing techniques. That was something I had a problem with. Otherwise, I feel like labor went well for me and I didn't take any classes.

Re: Childbirth Classes - Worth it?
The nurse explained how to push ro me in about 2 sentences when the time came. I also had a blessed epidural so I didnt really need any breathing techniques. I breathed like I had all 36 years of my life. The pain of crowning and tearing would have made anything taught in a class go right out the window anyway for me.
