Child-Friendly Lab
DD needs to have blood work taken and I've been putting it off because she is HORRIBLE and I mean HORRIBLE at doctor's offices. Cries hysterically the second we get into the room. Does anybody have a lab recommendation that is GREAT with little ones - DD is 15 months. Preferably in Nassau....THANKS.

I don't think it exists. I took my DD to the LIJ lab in Bethpage because everyone said they were good with kids and holy hell it was a nightmare. NIGHTMARE. I had to leave the room and have DH and another tech hold her down.
I've heard good things about the Stony Brook lab. It's far but I'll go to the end of the earth next time to avoid that disaster.

Well, that's unfortunate! When I did a quick search before (after I posted) I did see that lab recommended ....but your experience sounds terrible! DD is uncontrollable at the doctor's office - full-on hysterics (I feel like I almost need to encourage her to breathe because she gets so upset and gasps for air) so I'm just not sure where to go or what to do....

It does exist. The lab at Good Sam Hospital. They are amazing with kids and babies Not Nassau County but might be worth the trip

We had a good experience there too. Dd was only a year so you'd think easier but we'd had two failed attempts at lab Corp before going to good sam. They brought in 3 or 4 people to help so all I had to do was sit with her in my lap and comfort her. They did everything else and it was over really quickly.
The outpatient stony brook lab in setauket is good too but that's a hike from Nassau.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a downer. I don't think she would have cooperated at any lab. I think Minnie Mouse herself could have poked her with the daintiest of needles and all hell still would have broken loose.
Good luck!

Does your pediatrician have a lab they recommend?

I had the same experience at that bethpage one. Everyone said how great it was and I was ready to knock the lady out. She was so rough!!!

Re: Child-Friendly Lab
I recommend Good Sam as well - my son screamed of course, but they were sweet and patient and VERY fast.

This!
ETA: Call and ask when there will be someone working who specializes in kids. When we went, we had the woman who also works in the NICU. She was great. DD still cried of course but they're fast.

I had a great experience at Northwell Bethpage. The phlebotomist was super gentle. I was actually a little iffy when we saw that he was going to be taking my son's blood, as he looked "mean", but obviously I shouldn't have judged. No complaints and will be going back for my son's 2 year old blood work!
