Chicken pox vaccine reaction?

I don't remember DD having anything other than a fever 7 days after the MMR and chicken pox vaccine when she first got it at 15 months.

She just had the 2nd chicken pox shot for Kindergarten. (No MMR this time with it).

This was about 10 days ago. Yesterday she came home from camp complaining her leg was itchy. I saw what I thought was a mosquito bite, but then I noticed 2 more, one on her arm, one on her other leg. To me, they actially look like pox marks. And they are itchy too.

Has anyone's child ever developed a few pox marks after the vaccine?

Re: Chicken pox vaccine reaction?

Its just strange because its not at the injection site...I just noticed a few more on the back of her leg...like maybe 3 more.
I am assuming because its a live vaccine she probably is getting a few pox from it.
Just odd because she didn't get this with the firsr dose

Normal. But you are supposed to keep them home while the rash is there. Cause it is actually chicken pox and she can give it to someone else.

Re: Chicken pox vaccine reaction?

Ok so that contagious thing freaked ne out so I found this ...from CHOP:

Side effects of the varicella vaccine include tenderness in the local area of the shot, and occasionally a low-grade fever. A rash occurs in about 4 of 100 children who get the vaccine, generally around the area of the shot. A rash can also occur on parts of the body other than the area of the shot. There are usually fewer than 30 blisters that are a consequence of varicella vaccine, and children with these blisters are not contagious to other people.

I do rememberthe dr saying we should only avoid people who are immunocompromised like those on chemo.
I imagine it sheds in such a weakened state that the average healthy person would not catch it.
