cheese question

I know to avoid unpasteurized cheeses (although I'm not sure where I could even FIND any cheese that's not pasteurized) and I decided not to eat deli meats but what about cheese from delis? Like sliced swiss cheese? Can that be at risk for carrying Listeria as well? TIA

I've wondered this myself. The talk always seems to be about the meats at delis - not cheeses. I've personally made an uninformed decision that listeria is more associated with meat and that sliced cheese from delis is okay. I don't eat it excessively, but I will have it (whereas I don't do meat from delis).

Re: cheese question

I eat it from a reputable deli with high turnover. A world without cheese is like a world without sunshine.

cheese question

I bought my DH cold cute, I think Hillshire Farms prepackaged stuff which said it was pasteurized. Perhaps you could have that, if you wanted meat?

i feel the same way. i eat cheese sandwiches for breakfast and lunch.
the problem is i just realized that this may be a problem and my lunch sandwiches are from a questionable bodega on the corner. i work in a food desert.

cheese question

I won't eat the cheese from delis in case they sliced it from the same machine as the meat (I know they usually don't but just in case).

cheese question

I work in Murray Hill so I'm 99.9% sure they're not slicing the meats and cheeses from the same machine. I still eat deli cheese, my OB said NOTHING about cheese. I wouldn't make it another 31 weeks without cheese.

Re: cheese question

As some of the other girls have said, the issue really lies in the cleanliness of the machine more than the cheese itself.

cheese question

It's the same risk for cheese on the slicer as for meat. Sorry. Grilled cheese might be ok as long as it's heated hot enough to kill whatever bacteria is in there.
