Checking in with the June 2012 mamas - 1 year gone by!
Hi mamas! Can you believe that it has been almost a year since we moved from Pregnancy to Parenting? I thought it would be nice to check in to see what all of the babies are up to, and to share a pic, if you want. Don't feel like you have to use my format - I'm just trying to keep my thoughts organized.
Eating: Much of our year was fraught with eating issues: gas, refux, milk protein allergy, dysphagia (swallowing issues). Currently, a lot of this seems to be resolving. We've weaned DD down to 1/2 a dose of her reflux meds (Prevacid), and hopefully she will be off of all of it soon. This is our 3rd attempt at weaning, so I hope it lasts. She is still drinking neocate thickened with oatmeal, but since she has tolerated the introduction of dairy products nicely, I'm hoping we'll be able to switch over to whole milk.
DD is pretty much over purees, and enjoys many table foods. Her favorites are berries, melons, cooked veggies, and pasta with butter. She also enjoys cheese and avocado. Meats she can take or leave. She drinks water nicely from a straw cup, and I'm hoping we'll be able to transition off of bottles soon. She also really enjoys dropping things from her highchair and watching them fall!
Sleeping: DD is a pretty good sleeper. She goes down around 7:30 each night, and wakes up around 6 am, which works with our weekday schedule. She has been tossing and turning a lot from 5-6 am, but she doesn't cry for me until she hears me in the hallway, once I'm all ready. She still takes two naps per day: one in the early morning, from 8:30-9 until about 10-10:30, and then another from 1:30ish until 3-4! I don't think she's going to be a 1 nap kid for a long time.
Playing: I think DD is getting bored with a lot of her toys, and I can't wait for her to get some new ones at her birthday party. We transitioned the Excersaucer to a standing toy, so she likes using that now, and she still uses her Little Tykes Activity Garden a lot. She likes taking things in and out of bigger containers, and loves opening and closing doors. She still loves things that light up and make music.
Language: DD babbles a lot, and is now repeating sounds. She does a lot of "dada" and "mama," which often comes out as "nana". One day, she kept calling her Minnie doll "ina"! So, I think the words are coming. She still doesn't point to request, but I'm not too concerned.
Motor skills: DD is driving me nuts because she started cruising at 8.5 months, and stopped there! She does not seem to be at all interested in standing or walking independently. She used to love walking by holding an adult's hands, but now doesn't even want to do that. I think that now that she can get anywhere she wants by crawling or cruising, she is totally unmotivated to walk independently. I totally thought that she's be walking by now. However, she is climbing, and will try to stand up in shopping carts and highchairs, even when strapped in! I got reprimanded at Michael's the other day because she was turning around and trying to get out of the shopping cart.
Personality: DD is a little flirt! She thinks that she's the center of the world and that everyone else is supposed to pay attention to her. She loves when we go out to stores and restaurants. She smiles at everyone that walks by, and will stare them down if they don't pay attention to her! She really still enjoys silly, interactive play like peek-a-boo, and being thrown in the air. She is super-social, and I can tell that she is going to be a handful when she gets bigger! DH and I are just absolutely in love with her, and still can't believe that she's ours.
And here's DD. Then:
And now (well, a few weeks ago):
