changing the nipples?

My dad keeps asking me when I'm going to change the nipples on DS's bottle to ones that have a bigger hole.

DS is almost 4 months. I didn't know we were supposed to change the nipples? I use Dr. Brown's. Any insight would be appreciated!

I think that is about the right time to move them to the Level 2 nipple. If your DC looks as though they are struggling to get the formula/breastmilk out then it's probably time to move up. HTH.

Just found this:

Level 1 newborn
Level 2 3+ mo
Level 3 6+ mo
Y-Cut cereal and juices

Re: changing the nipples?

it says on the package that level 2 starts at 3 months. I didn't know to do it either until DS's daycare teacher suggested we switch because it seemed as if he was struggling to drink his bottle. So we did. If I dare accidentally give him a level 1 nipple now he has a fit!

Re: changing the nipples?

I think we did it around 4 months. I noticed she was getting very distracted when drinking the bottle

Now we are on level 3 and bottles are done pretty fast.

Re: changing the nipples?

The ones that come with Dr. Brown are good for months 0-3.

Re: changing the nipples?

I just tried changing to 2 last night (DD is 4 months) and it seemed to be too much for her. I'm going to wait a little longer and try again

Re: changing the nipples?

they give you suggested ages...but you really have to do it when the baby lets you know. Lily went to a level 2 at around 2 months. It would take her forever to finish a bottle and she was falling asleep. she's still at the level 2 now at almost 6 months and she's happy as can be.

I would also let your baby decide when it's time to move up. My DD is on 3's and she's 11 months old. At 4, she makes gulping noises the entire time. She can drink out of a nuby cup just fine but she just gulps when it comes to level 4 nipples.

OMG! I really thought he made this up! I had no idea the nipples had to be changed!!

I swear, this just makes me wonder about all the other things I don't know Chat Icon

Thanks ladies, I'm going to do a little experimenting with the nipples! (Did that come out right - LOL!)
