Changing jobs..wondering if anyone has been in this situation
So I have an offer for a new job. Same commute, a little more money, more opportunity to work from home.
I interviewed because there is little room for promotion in my current job.
I have worked for the same company for 16 years. In my department I have made some very close friends that have been through so much with me..my wedding, births of my children, the passing of my mother, the adoption and passing of both my dogs. I am having a hard time leaving them, they have also worked at the company just about as long as me.
I have no attachment to the partners.
The firm has been flexible, which is why many of us have been there so long.
I am so torn and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and did your relationships change after you left?

The relationships change a bit because you're no longer seeing them on a day-to-day basis, but I can tell you most of my good friends are people I used to work with. It will be hard, but you also have to do what's best for you. They would do the same if they had the opportunity. Just try to keep in contact and meet up when you can. Good luck in your new job!

Changing jobs..wondering if anyone has been in this situation
I just left my job after ten years. I've cried for days and felt very very very torn. In the end, I had to go with what felt right for me professionally.
I only left last week, so I can't answer your other questions. But I do know how you feel!!!!

Re: Changing jobs..wondering if anyone has been in this situation
I was in your situation a few years ago. I was at my old job for 10 years...they saw me through everything (Being single, getting married, getting a house, etc). I knew leaving was the best thing for me professionally and health wise. I left behind so many wonderful people. At first I was sad about it, even somewhat lonely. I kept in touch with people at first. But, over time, it seemed like some of my old co-workers and I really didn't have that much in common anymore since we didn't have work to talk about. Also, some of my co-workers were still unhappy at the old place and they didn't want to acknowledge what it was like elsewhere (I hope that makes sense). Someone said to me, "You don't go to work to make friends but it's a bonus" that really put things in perspective for me. But all in all, the real true friends remain and some are even looking to come over to where I am now! Overall I feel I made the best decision for me and my family! FM if you want to chat more!

In my case, I am still friends with the people I used to work with. We just don't see each other as often.

Changing jobs..wondering if anyone has been in this situation
My DH transferred within his company to a different location (also on LI) and he left behind some close friends. He still texts them and talks to them on facebook, but he doesn't get together with most of them anymore. One of them that very close to his age, he will hang out with occasionally. I stayed friends with a couple people from my last job before I became a SAHM. But we don't see each other anymore. It a more just occasional texts and Facebook. I think if you already call, text, and or hang out with them outside of work, you will most likely be able to continue that, but it will take more effort to reach out to each other since you won't see them everyday at work.

Unfortunately, your relationship with them is going to change. It's inevitable when you go from seeing someone 5 days a week to not seeing them at all (or very rarely). That doesn't mean your friendship will end, but that does mean it will change.
That's part of life, though, and you shouldn't stay in a job for your friends. It makes your time there more enjoyable, but you need to do what's right for your career.

I agree, your relationship will change regardless, you won't be together 5x a week and you won't have as much work stuff to talk about. But If you have friendships that have a basis outside of work then those may be easier to continue. I stayed in same company and changed jobs a year ago, though I keep in touch it's not the same as they were really work relationships. I have very few real friends at work, I try to keep separate.
