certification

Hi! I'm certified in health and phys ed, but obviously there are no jobs right now... I would like to become certified in something else... I've noticed a lot of special ed jobs open on OLAS right now though. Is there normally a lot of special ed openings? Right now, I'm a TA with special needs kids and love it, but wasn't sure of job openings with it. Thanks!!

Re: certification

Special ed is always a field in need.

I teach special ed and really enjoy it- Every setup is different but I am fortunate enough to have a small class size, which is definitely a perk!

Re: certification

yes, they are in demand, but you really must love it. it's can be very draining, both physically and emotionally, depending upon the type of kids you work with.

I have 2 other certifications and the ONLY certification I got interviews for was for special ed.

I love it!

I do love working with them in the middle school! My dept head said that I should really think about getting an additional cert in that, so now it's in my head maybe I should look into it.

Does anybody know if I would have to enroll in an exact program or am I able to get my transcripts looked at by Boces, like I did for my other certifications? And if I had to enroll in a program, does anybody know the quickest ones around here? I already have a Masters, but I wouldn't mind getting a second one...
