Certificate of Occupancy Question
Hello friends,
I was just wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for the town of Hempstead to approve an app for a certificate of occupancy. I am buying a home and the sellers converted the garage into a room in the house. They did this 30 years ago, but never got a C of O for it. Now that we're buying the home, they applied for it. The problem is thatour mortgage bank won't let us close until the C of O is approved.
Does anyone know how long it takes for this to occur? Is there any way to expedite the process.
We're looking to lose at the end of this month/ early July.
Thank you in advance!!
Gina

Re: Certificate of Occupancy Question
Yes the seller should hire a permit expeditor, they can usually get it done in four to six weeks (as long as there are no issues with it not being to code). It is totally not your responsibility to do this, the seller needs to handle it.
