Cerevidil and pitocin?
what is the difference between these and how/why or at what point do they decide to use them? thanks

My understanding was that Cervidil softens the cervix and Pitocin progresses dilation?

Yes cervadil softens the cervix and ocin Pitocin is supposed to be used to induce labor or increase the strength or duration of contractions

Pitocin is the manmade equivalent to the human hormone that stimulates contractions.

Everything I've learned in the past 2 weeks-
Cerevidil is an insert and is suppose to assist in opening up your cervix..
Pitocin will force your uterus to contract, therefore, inducing labor.
Sometimes, if you're dialating, the Dr. might give the pitocin to help the labor along. If your cervix is not open and they want to induce, they might use both.
Although, nothing is guaranteed- this can still fail, called a failed induction, and you might need a c/s.

I had both to induce labor. Cervadil at 7:30 pm Tuesday & Pitocin 8 am Wednesday. It worked for me

I had a failed induction, I never dilated more than 1cm BUT after 15 hrs of 1cm I didn't mind having a c-section AT ALL. I had both cerevidil and pitocin but also had an epidural before the pitocin bc I was contracting on my own...

I had cervadil 2 times - at 10 hrs each - although I had some contractions, I had no dilation, no effacement, and my cervix didnt soften at all - so there was no point to do the pitocin - so csection it was!!!
