Cereal Schedule...
Ok DS just started cereal again. We tried it at the beginning of the month and I don't know if the cereal had anything to do with it but he got gassy. Maybe he just got that way period because sometimes he goes through these periods where he gets gassy who know. So now this week we tried the cereal again. It seems better and now i've even been making it thicker. He's taking 1 tbsp in the morning and one at night. Question: When can I increase the intake? and can I start the other kinds of cereal as well now?
Once they start taking more cereal do I still give the bottle right after? He usually takes a 6oz bottle and I take the milk from there. Now say he starts having 2 tbsp and say I take two ounces of milk from his bottle. Then is it ok if he only has that 4 ounces of milk that's left in the bottle. 6 is really the highest he'll go. Sometimes he'll have 7. Should he be having 8 ounces of milk by now?
I feel like once he starts having more cereal then fruit and then veggies that he won't want to drink an 8 oz bottle afterwards...

Re: Cereal Schedule...
I asked the dr. last week...She said to the milk out of the bottle which is what I have been doing. He will not want the whole bottle so I would wait 1/2 even maybe a little longer and then give him the remaining milk in the bottle. If he will eat more cereal then I would offer him 3 tbsp. Also if the most he will drink is 6oz then I wouldnt make him 8oz because he wont drink it. If he is good on rice then I would try oatmeal for 4 days and then barley for 4 days and then start with veggie. If you start with fruit they get use to the sweetness and might not eat the veggies. Try one veggie at a time for 4 days and then try another to make sure he doesnt have any allergies to it. My dr. also mentioned that his intake will go down 6-8oz which is what I noticed. 6am 7-8oz bottle 9am 4tbsp of cereal and 1/2 -1 full jar of fruit 10am 2-4oz of formula between 12 & 1 6-8oz 3:30 4 tbsp of cereal and 1/2-1 jar of veggie between 4 & 4:30 I give him 2-4 oz 6-6:30 he has 7-8oz.
This schedule is an average one and it varies from day to day but I just wanted to give you an idea. I just started feeding him cereal 2 times a day I use to give him it to him only 1 time I really not sure why. Before cereal he would eat 5 bottles a day 7-8oz.

Re: Cereal Schedule...
you can try other cereals after the typical 3-7 day trial period to see for allergies.
If you are using rice cereal, that might be the cause of the gas. We went to oatmeal and never tried anything else.
After the initial feeding of 1 Tbsp, we added more each day. We ended up at 4 Tbsp each feeding. Then after 4 days of eating 4 Tbsp, we added fruit into it.
DD would take her bottle about an hr-1 1/2 hrs after eating a meal--still does and then goes to sleep.

Re: Cereal Schedule...
It's really all confusing...
I'm sorry to sound so stupid. But it's like once you start adding all the other stuff such as fruits and veggies doesn't a bottle have to go with every meal. Don't they need something to wash everything down with?

Re: Cereal Schedule...
I suggest switching to oatmeal, as well, if you are getting gas on rice.
I always found meals a good time to introduce the sippy cup with water to "wash" things down, but most likely he won't be hungry enough to take formula for a while after his meal.

He's too young now for a sippy cup...
Well he's not gassy now and he's still on the rice cereal. He was when we first gave it to him, then we stopped and started again this week.
