cereal HELP
help! my ped said i should give my son cereal in his bottle. she said 4 teaspoons per oz - so 4 teaspoons to 4 oz of enafmil - my poor guy sucked on it for 35 minutes and a 1/2 an oz came out - i feel terrible! i wound up giving him a regular bottle. she suggested the beechnut rice which i bought are there different kinds - it says cereal for baby on it - it was so thiok. he is using avent bottles with a #2 nipple is that too small of a hole - it is the 3 month size

Re: cereal HELP
This is MY opinion, but I don't believe in putting cereal in the bottle.

Re: cereal HELP
i am not sure if i believe in it either he is 9 weeks and 13 lbs, and eating every 3 hours, she suggested it to keep his belly full to try and get a little more sleep out of him. Did you wait to feed him with a spoon before you gave him cereal? maybe I will just have to stay on the 3 hour schedule a few more months

I agree. I tried it once after the ped had recommended we start cereal and he wasn't taking it on the spoon. The same thing happened to me and I was using the Y cut cereal nipples. The nipple just gets completely clogged.
The only suggestion I can think of if you have to continue to give it to him in the bottle is to take a pin or something and cut the nipple so the hole is larger.

Re: cereal HELP
I put cereal in Kevin's bottle for reflux. I use the level three nipples with the Dr. Brown's bottles.

Re: cereal HELP
I also continue to put cereal in bottle. 4 teaspoons per 4 ounces. It was suggested by a gastro specialist to help hold him over. I used the y cut nipple and it never clogged. It actually helped dilute the formula (powdered) better. It really helped him go from every 2 hrs to every 3-4. Now he is also eating cereal with a spoon 2 times a day, just a thicker version. The 4 teaspoons is just to thicken it a bit.
*sorry I just reread your post 4 tsps per ounce sounds like alot. Mine was 4 tsps per 4 ounces.

Re: cereal HELP
Thanks girls! I guess it is just trial and error - I never knew there were "y" cut nipples. I found 1 of the next size in the pantry and I am gonna give that a try. He is not quite holding his head on his own - So I do not feel I should put it on a spoon.
Thanks again!
