Ceramic or Vinyl/Linoleum?
Long story short...
Fridge broke, Best Buy screwed up, water leaked on our hardwood floors in the kitchen and ruined them. It's been a week and the floor is still stuck upwards. Anyway, their insurance adjuster came and said that the whole wood floor needs to be replaced, not just a section because of the type of wood and also because they don't make the color anymore. We "should" be getting a check from them to replace all the hardwoods. I wish I knew how much? It's replacing all of the wood. It's one big thing that runs from the front door into the dining room, into the kitchen and to the side door. A pretty big area. I wish I knew how much it was originally installed for?
Ok, sorry for rambling, but now I need to decide on what kind of floor to get to replace the kitchen area? I don't want to replace all the wood floors since we are selling it soon so I was thinking of replacing the kitchen area and to the side door with ceramic tile. My mom said that vinyl/linoleum is fine since it's an older house no one expects ceramic. Also, it's not good because if you drop something it will crack? She said to get something nice but cheaper and pocket the rest of the money. I'm hoping we can pocket something but I don't want to put something cheap looking in. We do need this to look good for selling purposes. What do you think? Thanks!

Re: Ceramic or Vinyl/Linoleum?
I'd go with Ceramic. Better resale value and more people like ceramic than vinyl or linoleum. I know if i walked into a house i was going to buy i'd expect tile no matter what the age of the house.
And dropping things doesn't crack it very easily. I've dropped knives, babyfood jars, pots, pans, and my ceramic floor took a beating from my 2 babies and it was fine.
Also if you go ceramic go for an epoxy grout, not the traditional kind-NOTHING sticks to it-no dirt, no stains. It's a little more money but so worth it!!!

Ceramic tile for sure. People look for tile or wood. Don't mean to offend anyone but vinyl screams outdated and "cheap" IMO even if knew and expensive.
