Re: Cemetery Plots
Depends upon a lot of factors. Cemetery, location within the cemetery, marker.
We have ours at Pinelawn, purchased in 2009. I don't remember the cost, will have to look that up when I get home tonight.
My mom's (dad too) at Pinelawn was about $3600 in 2004 MIL & FIL also at Pinelawn about $5200 in 2008
All were bought directly from the cemetery. You can also buy them from people who are selling them when they don't need them anymore. DH's friend bought a single plot for $2500 for his mom 2 years ago, but he had to pay separately for the marker.
eta : we bought ours already because we do not have children. As we get closer to old age, we will pre-arrange and pre-pay our funerals so as not to have to burden our nieces and nephews with this task.

Re: Cemetery Plots
My parents prepaid theirs and it made the whole process so much easier, all I had to do was go to the florist pick the flowers, and pick the saying on the memorial card.
I think it is very considerate to try and do this ahead of time, at the time of the death you are so emotionally over loaded it really took a lot of decisions out of my hands.

Cemetery Plots
i went with SO when he purchased his mom's. he purchased directly from the cemetery. i believe it was about $3500. he also is pre-paying for the services at the cemetery. i believe that was about $9500.
and just like all real estate: location, location, location. there were a lot of other plots that were double that cost because they're in prime location. i'm going to guess that this is one area in which the LA area is similar to the NYC area.

Re: Cemetery Plots
So I looked up my paperwork. We bought in 2009, the plot was $5490, the bronze marker $1988. We pay $55 a month until the total is paid off, no interest is charged.

Re: Cemetery Plots
My dad just bought a few plots. It was about $3k (for a 2 person) plot at Pinelawn. Pinelawn has a whole new area across the street (also part of the cemetery) which is where he bought. Because they are still fixing it up (putting in lots of trees, benches, etc). it was significantly less expensive. They said it is expected to be 100% completed (you could be buried there now) but it is being beautified in the next 3-5 years and then prices will at least double.
